Meilich Schnitzler pleaded guilty Monday to throwing bleach in face and eye of anti-child-sex-abuse activist Rabbi Nuchem Rosenberg 16 months ago.
Schnitzler was given a probation-only sentence at the request of District Attorney Kenneth Thompson – even though Rosenberg came close to being blinded by the attack and is still suffering from it two years later.
The transcript of the plea hearing shows that Rosenberg's opinion on the deal was not requested by the judge, and no victim impact statement was given.
Rosenberg was only told at last minute that Schnitzler was getting a no-prison sentence. He was not asked to address the court and the judge did not ask for a victim's impact statement.
"We changed the DA but we didn't change any behavior in the DA's office. The guy walks free…where is our protection?," Rosenberg asked a reporter after the sentence was handed down.
Indeed.
Another day, another miscarriage of justice in Brooklyn.

I agree with your conclusion that Rosenberg was never consulted, but I don't think the transcript proves it. There is no statement from the DA as to whether the victim was consulted and the judge never asked. It is pretty obvious (and disgusting) that the victim was asked for his feelings.
The deal itself is a ludicrous. People go to jail for driving with a suspended license, this putz throws bleach in someone's face and walks? Why? Because there was no permanent harm to the victim? Would the result be the same if Schnitzler shot at him with a licensed gun but only grazed him?
Doesn't matter who is in office Hynes or Thompson, they both pander to the larger voting blocks. Feds should investigate how that deal got done.

They're all fanatics, but the fact is that Rosenberg's true objectives is not to help children, but to hurt people (the good and the bad), who have distanced themselves from him.
