Congregation Ateres Yisroel, an illegal Ramapo haredi yeshiva and 24-bed dormitory previously cited for not having a building permit, a certificate of occupancy, or fire safety equipment, and which has known electrical hazards and other safety issues, has now been cited for running a dangerous illegal matzoh bakery adjacent to one of its buildings, the Journal News reported, and blocking a handicapped ramp that also serves as a building exit.

Three 60-foot trailers that have been joined together are being used as a synagogue and lunchroom by the yeshiva, as well.

None of the structures are permitted.

Ramapo Fire Safety Inspector Adam Peltz and Code Enforcement Officer Peter Muzzi found the matzoh oven and other violations while responding to smoke complaints yesterday.

They found a commercial matzoh oven “mounted 10 feet above the floor on cinder blocks, level with and blocking a handicap ramp in a wooden trailer next to the house on the 4.4-acre property” on Forshay Road, the Journal News reported, and cited the yeshiva for “unsafe burning, and for burning too close to a structure.”

The Town of Ramapo does not issue permits for commercial ovens located on residential properties.

Even so, yeshiva director Chaim Rosenberg claimed the yeshiva has a permit for the matzoh oven. However, he was unable to produce it when asked to by a Ramapo court.

Rosenberg also claimed the congregation has filed applications to legally operate the school with the Town of Ramapo’s Planning Board.

Congregation Ateres Yisroel has failed to appear in court at least two times on violation charges for the school and dormitory after it was cited in 2009 and 2012 for illegally operating them.

“[The congregation] vacated the school and that abated the violations," fire safety inspector Peltz said. "They subsequently sneaked back into the building."

Rosenberg finally appeared in court this morning after Justice Alan Simon issued warrants ordering congregation officials to appear.

"It's chutzpah to put a matzoh oven near an illegal dormitory.…I would strongly suggest that you keep (the school) clear from people," Simon said, adding that the school, dormitory and matzoh oven are "endangering lives."

Simon ordered Rosenberg to remove the oven and all students from the complex until proper permits have been obtained.

Rosenberg claimed the dormitory was vacated, but Peltz told the court that yeshiva dorms are normally closed during the Passover holiday season and said the students could easily return after the holiday.

Simon asked Rosenberg if he would shut down the oven and keep the dormitories and school empty until all approvals were given.

Rosenberg reportedly answered evasively, prompting Simon to order Peltz to reinspect the property to make sure Rosenberg closed down the oven.

Passover begins Monday night.

They don't care if their summer camps or illegal indoctrination centers have five or six times as many rooms as are on the floor plan, no inspections and no fire safety. Dude, have you ever considered law school? I think that you might be a pretty good criminal defense attorney; and I can just see you making the following arguments:

1. "Well, your honor, yes, my client did beat up his wife to where she had to go to the emergency room for her two black eyes, broken nose and busted lip; but you will recall the defendant you had in the courtroom twenty minutes ago, who killed a family of three as a result of driving under the influence, I'm sure you will agree that my client is/was nowhere near as bad as that guy was.....and/or
