Ten Brooklyn buildings associated with Joel Israel have a total of 482 housing code violations between them, according to city records. He and his brother Aaron allegedly again brought wrecking crews to tenent's apartments and destroyed them – without warning the tenents first. Similar allegations were made against the brothers in January.

Here's a disturbing thought Where does the Haredi community do less damage to society and to nonHaredi Jews?

1. As study parasites, living on the public dole in their own self-imposed ghettos.

Unscrupulous businessmen come in all stripes, religions and races. What is particularly distressing is that the public has the notion that religious Jews being pious and observant are automatically assumed to have business ethics. What the public does not get at this time is that the ethics are reserved only for fellow Jews (and then only for Jews of their particular observance level or sect-more on this later). So, when two Haredim smash an apartment so that the tenant will have to leave with no notice, no payouts and the re-finished apartment will go online as non-rent conrolled, it is distressing if not alarming to non-jews.

In effect we do it to ourselves. This week, my accounting firm landed a Haredi couple in my city. My partners in my firm are not Jewish. Naturally, one of my partners assumed that the couple would be interested in my representation. Instead they requested my male partner (my other partner is female). He told me, after the initial meeting that they could not abide having a non-observant Jew in their home. Guess I am lower than slime in their eyes.

They destroy what was probably a functional but almost certainly not-very-nice kitchen and bathroom, say, which they have to replace. However they might be getting 5x the rent on the open market as compared to the controlled rate - and they can get an even better rent for the place with updated K&B than with whatever crap was in place before. All a matter of dollars and cents. No soul or morals involved at all.
