Haredi Mega Thief Eliyahu Weinstein Appeals Sentence

Haredi mega-thief Eliyahu Weinstein (pictured at right) was sentenced to 22 years in prison and more than $430 million dollars in restitution and forfeiture late last week. Late yesterday, Weinstein filed a notice of appeal.

Why am I not surprised? You didn't need to be a clairvoyant to predict this. I wonder what Eli would consider to be fair & just by *HIS* reckoning. Most probably something absurd. The only thing I would like to see tacked onto his sentence is psychiatric counseling until he's cured of his current mental state, be it sociopathic or psychopathic behavior.

I can't believe the unreasonable-ness of your request. First we had the "fat shlubby Eliyahu" who looked like a pitiful sad sack in an ill-fitting white shirt. I complained about this picture to Shmarya and he changed it to the "sporty Eliyahu" shot which has Weinstein draping his stylish sport coat casually over his shoulders in a casual yet dapper pose. Now you two want ANOTHER picture? Both of you disgust me.

Guess my peers in the criminal defense bar in his jurisdiction will be raking in some bucks....I have not dealt with Federal Sentencing for years, but I can tell you that most Federal Judges are very, very thorough when it comes to sentencing.

But hey..it's his constitutional right to appeal. And if he wins on the appeal- as I see it- it's not just the Defendant winning. It's the justice system winning.

No surprise here,just like Rubashkin and got him nowhere. It will be entertaining to see the plethora of "petition denied" he will get. I am thinking,he might like to collect court orders the same way some collect baseball cards.

@mickee -----> Chances are, at some point, he either sent money overseas- the Cayman Islands, the Isle of Man, or Switzerland, and/or he dumped a huge wad of cash on some lawyers, and said "hold on to this in case I need your services in the future."

By the way, the second option is perfectly legal.

Janci, Rubbishcan got more because the Federal sentencing guidelines for the number and type of charges called for it. The fact that he perjured himself, showed no remorse, refused to make restitution, turned down plea deals, publicly accused the judge of being prejudiced in his case, so on and so forth bumped it to the higher end of the guidelines.

With Weinstein there was a confession even though he tried to take it back. The number and nature of the charges dictated his sentence. And while he kept pulling shit he hasn't been called out for perjuring himself and didn't spend a lot of time braying about how the judge was driven by bigotry.
