Haredi Man Who Refused To Get Into Police Car On Shabbat Sues Cops For Almost $1 Million

Police were reportedly called to a haredi home in Petach Tikvah on a Friday night after neighbors heard a large amount of yelling and screaming coming from that apartment.
Yeshiva World, which reports this story, avoids reporting details of exactly what police found when they arrived on the scene – which almost certainly means the haredi man mentioned in that report has a history of domestic violence, was threatening his wife or children, or had beaten his wife or children that night.
At any rate, police arrived and ordered the husband to come with them to the police station.
The husband refused, insisting that since this was not a situation of pikuach nefesh (immediate danger to life), he is not allowed under Jewish law to ride in a car. He did allegedly offer to walk to the police station which, the report claims, is about a five-minute walk from his home.
Police continued to order the husband to comply and enter the police car and the husband continued to refuse to do so.
In response, police tasered him.
The husband’s attorney claims he was tasered several times after being restrained while his wife and children were watching.
Since the incident, the husband has been treated in a psychiatric facility and takes prescribed medication. He is classified as 50% disabled – allegedly due to the incident.
The husband – who now has nightmares and sleep disturbances – is suing the police for 2.5 million NIS ($717,000).
As long as he was so pious that he wouldn't carry, even with an eruv, it's okay to use his family as punching bags. He's a choshiveh Yid.

Based on the results, it is obvious that when the police tell you to get in the car, IT IS PIKUACH NEFESH, (ie you own). IDIOT.

This is terrible. According to Jewish Law, a man should not beat his wife and children more than necessary to maintain their obedience and keep them on the right path.

Good, maybe he'll stop abusing his family.

Taking him in the police car was pikuach nefesh for his wife and family. The neighbors determined it was or they probably they would have nor called the cops.
I wonder how much of his hospitalization has to do with his lawyer looking for compensation for the lawsuit.
I hope he does have nightmares from the taser and suffers a long time.

Shemarya, this is a low blow even for you. Neither you nor I know why this putz was arrested. To state with "almost certain" conviction that the guy was a domestic abuser, without any indication of such in the news report, is not only slander, it's bad journalism. If further investigations prove your suppositions to be true, post it. It would have been better reporting if, instead of being "almost certain", you would have reported the facts as you knew them and then speculated that, perhaps, the arrest stemmed from a domestic disturbance, you would have been on message without intimating that you have prophetic powers.
