The Kiryas Joel Satmar Rebbe Rabbi Aharon Teitelbaum arrived in Israel today and, upset by the looming military draft of haredi yeshiva students, urged haredim there to “launch a holy war” against the government, Yeshiva World reported.

“Now everyone knows that haredi Jewry must go to war, one that is heard around the world against the [government’s] decrees in unity among all factions and communities.

“We must launch a holy war towards safeguarding the young unmarried men who do not attend yeshivas. Even those who are not learning do not serve a punishment of spiritual annihilation,” Teitelbaum said.

Teitelbaum also said that despite Sefardi haredi fears, Sefardim will not be abandoned because “we will take care of everyone.”

There are also reports that Teitelbaum will arrange a mass protest against the draft while he’s in Israel.

Where is "context" today? Yesterday he accused me of stereotyping because of various comments about Satmar's actions.

Would it be "stereotyping" to say that Satmar is calling for war and treason against the people of the State in which they live?

People here don't hate truly religious Jews. But we are not talking about them. At best these Satmar freaks could be described as ritualistic but certainly not religious. If they were religious they would understand how to behave as human beings, they would be kind, gentle, clean and honest. They would be honest in business and government dealings, they would educate and vaccinate their children, they would not treat non-Jews and secular Jews as evil scum. They would work and contrubute to society at large. They would be model people, the behavior of which others would aspire to. As it is now, all they do is generate antisemitism.

As I've stated on many occasions, I am all for people being hardworking and honest AND paying a fair share in taxes. I agree that what all too many Haredim are doing - living off the taxpayers and billing the system, is downright wrong. All able bodied men should be working. Period. However, the Israeli government (like all Israelis) is too arrogant to realize that if they bend a little, they will gain way more than they currently do.
There is also is a psychological approach to Haredim they simply don't get. I have recently convinced a young man to abandon his 'studying' and get a job. There is an approach that works.
It is also quite simple that after breaking your back to earn a meager wage, you can't make ends meet, one may not feel an accomplishment in his work. On top of that, a big chunk of it is being taken by the corrupt authorities which leaves you no choice but to get public assistance. One does the math and concludes that financially he'd be better off not working at all. No, not everyone makes 100+ g's a year and there is not enough room for that many more doctors, lawyers and similar white collar jobs. Most people are destined to blue collar jobs. Get my drift?
