Reports: Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto To Be Indicted

Israel's News 10 and Ynet (still only in Hebrew) are reporting that Israel's attorney general has accepted the police recommendation to indict kabbalist Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto on a series of severe charges, including bribery, public corruption, obstruction of justice, and tampering with witnesses.

Israel's News 10 and Ynet (both still only in Hebrew) are reporting that Israel's attorney general has accepted the police recommendation to indict kabbalist Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto on a series of severe charges, including bribery, public corruption, obstruction of justice, and tampering with witnesses.

Pinto, a scion of the Abuhatzeira and Pinto Sefardi haredi kabbalist-rabbinic dynasties, is the seventh richest rabbi in Israel with a net worth reportedly in the tens of millions of dollars.

He is also very close to leading politicians and business leaders.

Pinto's Hazon Yeshaya charity allegedly stole huge amounts of food donated and earmarked for Holocaust survivors. It sold the food on Israel's gray market, and its leaders pocketed the cash, allegedly giving a large amount of it to Pinto himself for his personal use.

Pinto's alleged bribes of senior police officers were meant to get inside information on the progress of the investigation into that theft and embezzlement.
