A source at the sentencing of the Camp Dora Golding molester, Chisdai Ben-porat, told FailedMessiah.com that Ben-porat was sentenced this afternoon to 5 months to 23 months in a Pennsylvania state prison in a special sex offender program.
Thevictim's father was allowed to speak – apparently becuase Ben-porat's parents were allowed to speak in his defense.
Both of Ben-porat's parents asked the judge not to sentence Ben-porat to prison.
The judge, however, rejected what they said.
Ben-porat is in custody on his way to prison.

It could be 5 years to 23 years. It can't be punished away and it can't be cured away. Handcuff him to mommy for 12 hours a day and to daddy for 12 hours a day. That ought to work.

If history repeats itself, he will be honored in every shul he enters. He will be treated with respect and called a tzaddik. The boy who was molested will be hounded and vilified. The parents will be excised from their community. Why?
There should be no question. A child molester in the ultra-orthodox community is no different that a molester in any community. The ultra-orthodox, in clinging to the concept of mesira or prohibitions against informing, re-victimizes the victim. Ben-Porat will be lionized. Once again the community will be in reverse. The perpetrator will be treated like a treasure while the victim will be treated like trash. Once again a Jewish institution acted in a negative fashion and felt justified in doing so.
I hope Camp Dora Golding is sued into oblivion. I hope Ben-Porat finds real justice in prison.

Unfortunately, the prisons now make a real effort to protect these scum while they are serving their sentences. This sounds like a joke of a sentence. I am sure if it was our child that had been molested, my husband would have made certain for himself that he never saw another sunrise.

to AK:
It is not very likely that the victim is ultra orthodox and that if they choose to be named that they will be vilified in their community (most likely somewhere on the MO spectrum).
It may be difficult for you to process the difference between ultra Orthodox and MO but on this issue there is a (currently) a big difference. The real reason this trial happened in the first place is that the clientele at DG is not ultra-orthodox and apparently (according to this website anyway) a campers' parent or other adult called the police before the perpetrator was able to escape. Nowhere has anyone in the DG community of parents (of which I am very familiar) defended the perpetrator.

@Alter Kocker, and @Feminista ---> On one hand, I certainly understand your sentiments. I'm not a parent, but I am uncle, and if someone ever did something like that to my niece or my nephews, I'd probably snap their neck with my bare hands...and I'm an Officer of the Legal System.
On the other hand, since I am an Officer of the Court, I do have to point out that someone is sent to jail or prison AS punishment; and not FOR punishment, and there is a difference.
Yes, he and persons convicted of similar offenses are generally housed separately, b/c as Alter Kocker has observed, as I can attest, child molesters rank right down there in the prison hierarchy with snitches;
and if they are identified as such to the gen pop (general population)...it's not unheard of for them to get victimized.
And while that satisfies us on a visceral level- and may be thought of as "justice" in a sense- it is still vigilante justice....which can never be condoned.
Just my thoughts....
