A Chabad hasid who repeatedly sexually abused a teen girl over a period of years has failed in his bid to be released from prison early to attend his son’s Bar Mitzvah, the Daily Mail reported.

Menachem Mendel Levy of Golders Green, London is serving a 3-year prison sentence. He was convicted on two counts of sexual assault upon a girl under 16 in June of last year.

His victim was between 14- and 15-years-old when the assaults took place.

Yesterday the Court of Appeal rejected both Levy’s appeal of his conviction and his appeal of his sentence.

Levy’s attorney called the Bar Mitzvah an “important milestone” and argued the court should release Levy for it.

“His son is about to reach Bar Mitzvah age.This is such an important milestone. He really needs to be out for that. It would be extremely upsetting for those involved if he was not able to make it,” Tania Griffiths, Levy’s lawyer, reportedly told the court, adding, “This man is a very religious man. We have a changed man, literally a changed man. This is a man who was trying to make things better before the police ever came and darkened his doorstep. This man is a real family man. He has a baby of two months that he has never seen.”

The judges rejected Griffith’s argument and also rejected her claim the guilty verdict was wrongly reached.

There  was “no substance” - not even a “lurking doubt” – that jurors were pressured into returning guilty verdicts, the court said, adding, “the verdicts are safe and this appeal against conviction is dismissed.”

The judges also ruled that:

• “The [trial] judge was entitled to accept the victim’s evidence that the abuse began when she was 14.”

• The [trial] judge was fully entitled to reach the conclusion that no real remorse has been shown [by Levy].”

David, there are many Orthodox organizations that work to expose pedophiles and to bring them help or justice. as indicated. The fact that there are notable cases among the Orthodox where they did the opposite does not change that, or justify your statement. Here is an example.

Many African Americans are concerned with law enforcement. They are concerned with keeping communities safe and restricting criminals. There are African Americans who commit crimes. If Levy, at the time, did not possess two pennies to rub together you can be sure he would not have received the support he is getting. This community has lost a benefactor and for that the victims father is taking the brunt of their revenge. Whoever is behind this idea to ruin the father of the victim (whether it is Levy's family or members of this "sick" community) they certainly do not have Hashem in their lives.
