Murdered hasidic slumlord Menachem “Max” Stark’s business partner Israel “Sam” Perlmutter is a suspect in Stark’s murder, a police source told the New York Daily News.

Police are reportedly focusing on Perlmutter because they believe Perlmutter repeatedly lied to them about Stark. They also reportedly believe that Perlmutter is trying to deflect attention away from himself by trying to implicate a Russian businessman involved in the private loans business.

Perlmutter – a long time friend of Stark who is also a member of the Satmar hasidic community – lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He claims to be in fear for his life and has reportedly hired armed guards for protection.

Besides his career as a slumlord and a real estate developer, Stark reportedly was also a lender who loaned money as bridge loans to other businessmen at a 30% (or greater) interest rate.

Police now believe Stark may have been crushed to death after being kidnapped late Thursday in Williamsburg. His body was found in a garbage dumpster in Great Neck Friday.

“It might be that they sat on him to get him under control and that they wound up killing him that way,” a police source reportedly said.

Yesterday, members of the murdered millionaire slumlord’s family held a press conference to announce that they had upped the amount of the reward the wealthy family was offering for information that leads to the arrest of Stark’s killers.

The reward amount was raised – from $11,000 to $25,000.

When Stark was still thought to be alive, his family offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to his safe return.

I gave no idea whether the partner is involved, or just behaving as Jekyl suggests we all should, but if he IS in fact innocent and IS simply not cooperating with the police because......we DON'T cooperate with the police, then he is behaving in a way that all but guarantees that the real perpetrators will get away clean. In most of these cases, they bad guts are caught quickly - or not at all, and to deflect resources away from the search and toward someone who is basically just being a butt head........
