A Be'er Sheva court sentenced 45-year-old Rabbi Asher Dahan, the murderer of kabbalist Rabbi Elazar Abuhatzeira, to life in prison today, Arutz Sheva reported. Abuhatzeira – a grandson of the kabbalist Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira, known as the Baba Sali – was stabbed to death in July 2011.
Abuhatzeira lived for many years under the threat of violence, primarily because he charged followers significant amounts of money – sometimes well into the six figures – to give them blessings for specific needs that Abuhatzeira promised would heal them or bring the success in business or help in other ways. But those followers sometimes did not get the results they believed they were promised causing some to become disillusioned and others to make violent threats.
Abuhatzeira became very wealthy through this scheme, amassing what some sources claim was hundreds of millions of dollars. But as the threats mounted he was forced to take ever increasing security measures, including building a tunnel from his palatial home to his synagogue across the street so he would not have to walk outside and be exposed to possible threat. Abuhatzeira followers were told the tunnel’s purpose was to shield the rabbi from seeing “impure sights” – improperly dressed women who could be walking nearby.
Dahan stabbed Abuhatzeira to death inside Abuhatzeira’s home office after the blessing Abuhatzeira charged Dahan a significant amount of money for with the promise that it would help Dahan’s marriage failed to work. Dahan had complained to Abuhatzeira, who apparently charged Dahan more money for another blessing to ‘fix’ the first. When that, too, failed to work, Abuhatzeira tried to put the failure on Dahan’s lack of faith and on other similar things, and told Dahan to immediately divorce his wife. This enraged Dahan, who stabbed Abuhatzeira to death.
“The accused reasoned that [Abuhatzeira’s] advice was wrong and lacked consideration, and stemmed from a desire for money [and not from any true religious values],” the indictment against Dahan reportedly read.
The trial was originally delayed because it was claimed that Dahan was insane, but psychiatrists later found him fit for trial.
That this could happen in 2013 is a sad commentary on the state of mind of these people. Catholic clergy stopped selling indulgences and amulets hundreds of years ago.

I would have given him 6 months house arrest and 2 years of probation. The slimeball ripped off thousands not only of their money, but of their dignity, while playing with their hopes and dreams.

He should have been given a medal.
This thief ripped off many people and dahan stopped other innocent fools from giving this sicko money.
He did the world a favor

Dahan was incoherent about his motives. Sadly, they are putting away a nut for life, while they let the Abuhatzeira scion have multimillion dollar careers. Dahan should have gotten life in a psyche ward, not in jail. Abuhatzeira should have gotten jail, not life in luxury.

Abuhatzeira:
The original ancestor was 'famous' for laying a carpet along side a river/stream and sat on the carpet and got across the water.
Sort of like a magic carpet ride.
I get the feeling the Abuhatzeira ancestor and those following him were all frauds.

In the distant past...
Rabbi Meir Kahane said as a passing remark that either the son or grand son of the Baba Sali was jailed for fraud.
Seems that I remember that this guy paid $25,000 for a blessing to get his wife/daughter/daughter-in-law pregnant.
Dumb fool a fertility doctor can do wonders for $25,000
This is like believing in the 'tooth fairy'
I have no sympathy for fools
