I hope he just went underground to take a breather from the stresses of school. Maimonodies is an elite school and teens go thru lots of stress
We should say tehillim that he be found soon and in safety

Does he suffer from any emotional or psychological issues? Is that information that will come out later which if put out now could be helpful in finding this young man?

millionaires , or just very well off jews, jewish rich and famous send their children to ' religious ' day schools for protection .
they are dead wrong .
those religious day schools have NO SECURITY . anyone can get in and out and do anything they want , VERY EASILY . I personally took my children out of a jewish day school bc of that .
there is MORE SECURITY in public schools . nobody can step into a public school . NO WAY ! they are guards everywhere . they will stop you on the spot .
ALSO , I WILL NOT TRUST STUDENTS in
'religious' day schools or jewish day schools . they are more dangerous than students in public schools .
trust me , I know .
in a public school , if a student harasses , bully or just hurt another student in any way , he is immediately fired from the school .
in a private , VERY EXPENSIVE jewish day school , IT WILL NOT HAPPEN . the school is more concerned about the VERY HIGH tuition they get from the parents .
tuition that are more expensive than a college with a low academic teachings .
also, those students in jewish day schools are so pampered , they have no sense of suspicion or danger , so naïve that they will follow anyone or just feel free to go out on their own .
a student does not disappear out of the blue , especially if he is the son of a well known columnist .
to all parents who intent to send their children to a jewish day school , before enrolling , go in person to the school DURING SCHOOL SESSION and try to get in . u'll see nobody can stop you .
then , think twice about sending your child to that school .

Agree with all above posts. It's cold outside. Hope Boston PD find him. So many kids in Boston colleges; maybe got involved with something, hope he gets home safe, sound and soon.

Disagree with 'm' post. It came while I was typing.

M
You pulled your child out of day school because you are a POS who despises religion. Perhaps your son was getting into that religious thing...

I hope that he is safe and sound and returns quickly to his loving parents.

the cold , the freezing temperature won't prevent jeff jacoby to go home .
a 16 year old is a young adult in possession of all his bearings .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 10:48 AM
@ jekylj ,
why don't you go to a chabad mikvah and
molest a few chabad kids and leave this site .
if u do , u won't be arrested or prosecuted , trust me , I know !

M is correct....to a degree. The sense of trust and calm that exists in a Yeshiva Day school do not exist in public school.....and usually that is a very good thing. However, when it goes bad, it goes very bad. Nevertheless, M's rant is simply a hate filled tirade against Yeshivas, and has no place in this thread.
Posted by: bendinai | January 08, 2014 at 10:51 AM
M,
Your long post was just drivel and innuendo.
What makes me hit the roof is this: "trust me , I know .",Why should i trust you? You are an anonymous person. For all i know you are a dangerous person. When you need to back up your rants with a "trust me, i know" it backs up an assertion that you are UNtrusty and know nothing
Posted by: jimmyInBkln | January 08, 2014 at 11:00 AM
@bendinai,
I was not reffering to yeshiva only , but to most jewish day schools , like Solomon schecter and others alike . they r all unsafe , bc NO SECURITY .
@ jimmilnBkln ,
you don't need to trust me . I did not ask you to .
all I know I what I'm saying is true .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 11:05 AM
this wonderful kid has been missing for more than 24 hours . that's it ! he's done . I hope they'll find his body .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 11:11 AM
@ shmarya ,
after reading this article, I was thinking about you .
be careful ! there are a lot of hateful
'religious ' ppl who have the nerve to visit ur awesome site and post hateful comments .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 11:22 AM
"all I know I what I'm saying is true ."
YOU are probably a dumb used car salesman or a snake oil rep
Don't ever say "trust me, i know" on an anonymous public forum if you don't want to be ridiculed
Posted by: jimmyInBkln | January 08, 2014 at 11:23 AM
" that's it ! he's done "
Another example of your silliness.
If the kid has decided to take a break for whatever reason he can be live and well for a long time
Posted by: jimmyInBkln | January 08, 2014 at 11:25 AM
I could see that my comment hits a cord and it's gonna hit you for a long time .
obviously , u don't like to read the truth . too bad !
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 11:27 AM
if they ever find his body , frozen somewhere .
no one will make me believe that jeff jacoby died bc of the freezing cold .
it is murder ! but they will attribute his dead to the weather . NO WAY . how many ppl do u see slumped dead frozen ?
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 11:33 AM
Some of the comments here today are really bizarre and creepy.
I hope he is well and found safe soon.
Ridiculous to generalize about "all" schools whether they are public or private. The only Solomon Shechter school I've been to recently had the exact same security as the public school I've been to most recently. Not sure what the point of that post was. A nationwide study would be needed to verify that comment. And yes, since Newtown (a public school into which a stranger was able to enter) many schools of all types have reevaluated their security.
Posted by: ! | January 08, 2014 at 11:51 AM
the killings at newton school in Ct was not a random killing . adam lanza was a student there and employees at the school knew him and adam ' s mother was
a substitute teacher at the school .
adam knew the school very well and was able to get in .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 12:43 PM
@M I can't speak for every Yeshiva or day school, but Yeshiva Darchai Torah in Far Rockaway is tops when it comes to security, they have ex navy seals as security guards and the whole campus is fenced it which is unheard of in New York it's to a point where the parents get frustrated when it comes to picking up their kids, I have 3 kids there and I'm all for the security, they don't care who you are if you don't show proper ID don't think about getting in, I'm in the Coast Guard and I misplaced my drivers license and I had to wait a half hour to get in after showing my government ID

the police do not suspect foul play and think its a case of a 'runaway'. I hope they're right and he's just taking a few days to clear his head. There is of course a horrible outcome which nonetheless fits with that assumption. i hope he comes back soon. best wishes .

I cant believe I am responding because again there is no point:
1. Adam was not a student at the school for probably twenty years.
2. Original reports of his mother having been a substitute were shown to be untrue later on.
3. Even if true, his mother's possible substituting would not have gained him entry that day. She certainly wasn't there or supposed to be there that day.
4. Most if not all school incidents in the US since Columbine have not been random and were perpetrated by someone who knew the school. So what's your point about Lanza? That was no different EXCEPT since he wasnt a current student he shouldn't have been on school grounds and somehow was there anyway.
5. With all the above you made the ridiculous comment that Yeshivas and day schools are less safe than public schools because they don't care about security but only about high tuition dollars that people pay.
6. Lets hope that all schools, public and private, enhanced security or not, remain and stay safe.

I sincerely hope this boy is found alive or returns intact to his family.
Maimonides, at least many years ago, was not a friendly place to any student with the least inclination to question the party line. That was in the 70s. They were quite harsh to a very bright female cousin of my wife's whose father was a Conservative rabbi-educator. The girl asked 'why' and they basically answered 'because' and it went noplace useful. She subsequently became an architect and made Aliyah for many years, returning to raise their young daughters in the US out of concern for their physical safety in Netanya. Her younger sister refused to attend Maimo and went to a public high school, then became MO later on on her own. Funny how that works.
I wonder how much of a pressure cooker that school is now. As for security, it's surrounded by a wall and is in a good neighborhood. I doubt abduction is at the root of this. Jeff Jacoby's columns are not inflammatory enough to elicit this sort of response from any sane reader if indeed there is a connection.

m,
Sorry in no. 5 above I meant "Insulting comment" that unnecessarily stereotypes rather than what is written. (ridiculous).
Posted by: ! | January 08, 2014 at 01:08 PM
I hope caleb ran away , although he does not look like a kid who could run away , unless he is pissed off with Maimonides and its students . if he ever happens to come back , his parents should listen to his wishes and switch school, if that's what it is .
Posted by: m | January 08, 2014 at 01:17 PM
@ S M L.....Having attended Maimo and later Frisch, it;s the ModOx culture that is the pressure cooker, and the sick Yeshivas only feed into it. Just like with the Hareidi institutes (where I sent my kids), they do not believe in the Torah that they "teach"; and while these schools are happy when I student opts for YU, they are geared to Harvard, U of P and Columbia.

I agree with your assessment of security differences in public and Jewish schools.
Let's all pray that Caleb is found safe.

@m
Adam Lanza was able to enter Sandy Hook School because he used his gun to blast his way through the glass door and window at the entrance to the school. Unless a school has bullet proof glass on all the doors and windows, it can't withstand a determined attack by someone with a weapon.
In my community, all our Jewish institutions require that someone be buzzed in, after pressing a buzzer and speaking to someone in the office over the intercom.

rhode island ? home of the gay population . I hope he was not abducted by a fag .

M, you need to take a nap. Everyone here on all ends of the FM spectrum is in agreement with concern about this missing young man. You seem to be on drugs. Lay down and close your eyes for a couple of hours.
Posted by: WoolSilkCotton; I must be seen to be believed | January 08, 2014 at 03:24 PM
@m
Not sure why you think Rhode Island is a particularly "gay" state. After all, here in CT, we've had same-sex marriage for 5 years. It only became legal in Rhode Island in August of 2013. Rhode Island isn't a big gay vacation mecca, like Provincetown, MA, Key West, FL, Fire Island, NY, or Palm Springs, CA. And I'm not sure why you think that gay men go around kidnapping sixteen-year-old boys.
Meanwhile, based on your comment I'd suggest you stay out of the eighteen same sex marriage states of California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Washington, Utah and the District of Columbia. We wouldn't want you to be corrupted. Or kidnapped.

Why all this irrelevant back and forth and name calling? A child is missing...why speculate as to his condition and such. I doubt any of us can fathom what the parents are going through. So, if you have information that can help locate him, contact Brookline police at (617) 730-2222. And, if you can, share the picture and news item with others via email and maybe social media you use, perhaps Facebook. Done.

And that was when it was relatively "liberal". It's moved to the right since then.
