South African anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, who rose from prison to become South Africa’s first black president, was trained in weaponry and sabotage by Israel’s spy agency the Mossad in 1962 only a few months before he was arrested, Ha’aretz reported based on a top secret document from Israel’s State Archives discovered several years ago by David Fachler, a student researching his Master’s thesis.
Mandela became an anti-apartheid activist and leader in the 1950s. After several arrests he went underground, eventually illegally fleeing South Africa in January 1962.
Mandela reportedly met with the Israeli agents in Ethiopia later in 1962, where he used the alias David Mobsari.
The Mossad reportedly learned Mobsari's true identity only after he returned to South Africa and was arrested.
The document says that Mandela “showed an interest in the methods of the Haganah and other Israeli underground movements…[and] he greeted our men with ‘Shalom,’ was familiar with the problems of Jewry and of Israel, and gave the impression of being an intellectual. The staff tried to make him into a Zionist.…In conversations with him, he expressed socialist world views and at times created the impression that he leaned toward communism,” the document reportedly says.

I find it extremely bizarre that this comes out decades after the fact and a week after Madiba's funeral, and cannot be verified from other sources. Also, Mandela and the ANC were forthcoming about the African and non-African states which were supporting their struggle in one way or another, and sorry to say that Israel was on the wrong side of history. The Nelson Mandela foundation states in a release on their website: Media have picked up on a story alleging that in 1962 Nelson Mandela interacted with an Israeli operative in Ethiopia. The Nelson Mandela Foundation can confirm that it has not located any evidence in Nelson Mandela's private archive (which includes his 1962 diary and notebook) that he interacted with an Israeli operative during his tour of African countries in that year. Both the diary and the notebook were used as evidence against him in the 1963-1964 Rivonia Trial for sabotage. In 1962 Mr Mandela received military training from Algerian freedom fighters in Morocco and from the Ethiopian Riot Battalion at Kolfe outside Addis Ababa, before returning to South Africa in July 1962. In 2009 the Nelson Mandela Foundation’s senior researcher travelled to Ethiopia and interviewed the surviving men who assisted in Mandela’s training – no evidence emerged of an Israeli connection.

if nelson mandela sought Israeli training and felt comfortable to be among Israeli , there was no jewish ppl at his funeral .
chelsea clinton was there , but without her husband marc mezvitsky , so was huma abedin without her husband , anthony wiener . everybody else came with their husband .
no israeli or jewish politicians were present at his funeral either . none .

m.
that's a very interesting observation. my question is: if he did or said something truly offensive ...the spouses would not have been there. there could have maybe been a security threat against people
of the jewish religion. who knows?
in regards to the mossad? nothing would surprise me. they kick ass.

mandela's mossad training helped him win the battle against apartheid and free his ppl . he knew where to go .
mandela's victory did not happened out of nowhere .
the black ppl of south Africa and mandela's family did not show any gratitude to Israel and the jewish ppl .
if mandela's was turned down by the mossad , the afrikaners will be still in power today . mandela was smart to sign in under a different name than his own .
