Officials in the Satmar hasidic Village of Kiryas Joel just north of New York City have reportedly filed complaints with federal and state officials over what they claim are disruptions in voting caused by poll watchers from United Monroe, which is opposed to the slate of candidates supported by the Kiryas Joel Satmar Rebbe Aharon Teitelbaum.

Officials in the Satmar hasidic Village of Kiryas Joel just north of New York City have reportedly filed complaints with federal and state officials over what they claim are disruptions in voting caused by poll watchers from United Monroe, which is opposed to the slate of candidates supported by the Kiryas Joel Satmar Rebbe Aharon Teitelbaum.

Village officials claim United Monroe’s poll watchers have harassed and intimidated village voters, “causing some to just walk away before casting their ballots,” the MidHudson News reported.

Police were reportedly called and are on the scene now as is Republican Elections Commissioner David Green.

The New York State Attorney General’s Office was also notified of the alleged election law violations by United Monroe.

A representative of the US Department of Justice is reportedly in the village, the poorest town or village in the entire country, to observe the elections.

In previous elections, non-hasidic activists alleged that large scale voter fraud was being carried out by hasidim. And in September's primary election, the group's Williamsburg branch reportedly carried out extensive voter fraud in support of their chosen candidates while hasidim in Kiryas Joel had a questionable voting aid confiscated by elections officials.

Update 3:50 pm CST – A reader sent in the following comment from one of non-hasidic poll watchers:

"[The MidHudson News] article is about me and some other volunteers and is all lies. We are monitoring an election in a religious village historically known for rampant voter fraud. All we were doing was within our legal rights as certified pollwatchers: making sure the voter's signature matched the signature on record. For this we were screamed at for attempting to disenfranchise voters if we dared challenge an obvious mismatch. To intimidate us, they yelled, refused to follow rules, and called the Department of Justice."

The only intimidation that day was by Harley Doles who had his people disrupting the voting process. There were also hateful fliers given out saying the the poll watchers were part of a group that wants to destroy Kiryas Joel. Not true at all. You will all see that Harley Doles will throw you under the bus too as soon as he is done getting what he can from you.
