Hasidic Yeshiva Bans 4-Section And Colored Yarmulkes

Pupa yeshiva Williamsburg ban on 4-section yarmulkes 10-2013Pupa hasidic yeshiva in Williamsburg bans 4-section yarmulkes. Students' yarmulkes must have 6 sections and must be completely black. No colored yarmulkes are allowed, and permitted yarmulkes must be soft and big enough to cover the entire head (i.e., cover most of the head an stay on easily).

Its not that they are banning it is simply that they are defining what their school uniform is to be. When a school decides to institute a school uniform policy it is not to be viewed as other forms of dress as being banned.

You start with 4-section yarmulkes and the next thing you know you have plastic eye glass frames.

if it is spelled with the letters pe alef pe alef.
why do they not pronounce it/ transcribe it in equal syllables i.e.:
papa or popo or even poopoo like the first syllable of pupa?

Showing individuality leads to mixed dancing.

Why does the school have to tell them no colored yarmulkas? Are the students going OTD? I don't think I've ever seen chasidishe bochurim wearing colors except on Purim.

YL-
You're right about mixed dancing. Colored yarmulkas attract girls.

there goes my business idea of 8 section yarmulke. The more section the better the fit just like cycling shorts

So in the last few days they've banned plastic eyeglass frames, leather and now four section and colored yarmulkes.

What next?

4 piece yarmulkes are just cheap bar mitzvah party favors that make you look like a cone head. They need to be banned on principle alone.

Is it because giant 4 section kippot are for goyim and assimilated Jews?
I wonder if their rebbe will say that there were 6 days of creation, so Moses decreed that all Jews must wear a kippah which symbolizes it to be truly pious.........or so that it will remind them of the 6 year olds they like to schtup

Once again small minds with very little to occupy them.

8 section is trayf and banned but section 8 is permitted and encouraged.

did it ever occur to them that maybe just maybe g-d the one that
made colors likes colored yamulkas.
maybe he likes black ones too..
but really...i just don't like it when they appear to have the final word instead of thanking the boys for simply wearing one.

"...You start with 4-section yarmulkes and the next thing you know you have plastic eye glass frames...."

In smooth leather glasses cases...oy! Put one of those in your pocket and it's time to grateful that those long coats they wear are loose fitting in front. Time to run to the mikvah to release that energy.

They should wear4 section kipas to signify the DALED AMOS they live in.

To Reese.

NO they should wear 8 section kipot to reflect SECTION 8 housing

@seymour "there goes my business idea of 8 section yarmulke."

Don't give up! The zuchetto -- the skullcap worn by Roman Catholic clerics has eight sections. All ordained members of the Catholic Church are entitled to wear the black zucchetto -- that's a substantial market.

"I wonder if their rebbe will say that there were 6 days of creation, so Moses decreed that all Jews must wear a kippah which symbolizes it to be truly pious"

However, the knitted kippah has only one section, reflecting the unity of HaShem. I declare all other kippot to be treif.

The Anglicans use six panels for their skullcap and the Syriac and Malankara Orthodox use seven panels.

So I guess it is goyish to use six, seven or eight panels. Four are also ruled out as stated above so a kosher yarmulke can only have ONE (but that's those tiny little flat ones that some Zionists wear so that's not kosher either), two and three (but not practical), five and nine and above.

Section 8! HA!!!!
Seriously though. Does anyone know if there is any reason for the 4 section ban other than it is a popular MO Bar Mitzvah yarmulke and usually does come in many colors (with the occasional embroidered team or school or monogrammed logo).

And Rebitzman at 8:18: the ones around here (NJ) actually lie flatter than the Chassidish ones so I'm wondering if THAT is the problem (assuming all black color). Were you referring to the old style light blue satin ones?

Now what do I do with my Batman, Simpsons, and NY Yankees kipot?

Wear 'em next time you're in Williamsburg or Boro Park.

"...You start with 4-section yarmulkes and the next thing you know you have plastic eye glass frames...."

and as YL asserts, leads to mixed dancing.

Luke.

S M L:

Yep, and if upstate, NS and KJ. :)

Luke.

I love how they precede the rules with a whole spiel about the Mesiras Nefesh they invest in the children's Torah, Yiras Shamayim and Middos. So all that Mesiras Nefesh is needed so that they wear the exact yarmulke you want? You would think they're leading up to something significant.

One who knows the intricacies of Hassidic sects understands the concerns. As an outsider it will never make any sense to you. Yes, the child that chooses to wear a particular kipah (not standard issue) or stylish eyewear is usually attempting to make a rebellious statement. (Yup, the statement that sadly many of you appreciate)

I imagine if he wears a blue shirt, he's a kofer altogether.
