Video: D.A. Refuses To Apologize For Calling Opponent A Black Gun Runner
On this new video, Brooklyn D.A. Charles J. Hynes (pictured at right) refused to apologize or take back his remark labeling his opponent, Ken Thompson, a Black gun runner. Hynes also repeated his completely unproven claim, rejected even by major media outlets that once backed Hynes, that felon Clarence Norman (also black) ran Thompson's successful primary day campaign.
Thompson crushed Hynes in the Democratic primary, beating Hynes by 10 points.
Hynes is now running as a Republican and a Conservative, even though he publicly promised not to do so on the night of his defeat in the days afterward. (He also promised Thompson a smooth transition.)
Hynes' campaign has been full of racial overtones and clear attempt by Hynes to paint Thompson – a former federal prosecutor – as an associate of criminals and soft on crime.
Hynes has been excoriated by NYC media for doing this, but he continues to do it anyway because his strategy is to inflame racial tension just enough to get the Southern Brooklyn votes, which are heavily white.
It is a campaign that is despicable and desperate, slanderous and based on lies. And it is quintessentially Charles J. Hynes:
He deserves to be disbarred, for this and more that he's done.
