BOTH SATMAR FACTIONS AND MAJOR ORTHODOX JEWISH COMMUNITIES ENDORSE KEN THOMPSON FOR BROOKLYN D.A.

Satmar Factions Backed Hynes In Primary Have Join Forces To Support Democratic Nominee Ken Thompson

BROOKLYN – In another strong show of support for his campaign to be the next District Attorney, both the Aaroni and Zalmani Hasidic sects of Brooklyn’s Satmar Jewish community,  in addition to Orthodox leaders representing  thousands of voters in Borough Park, Crown Heights, Flatbush and Williamsburg , today announced their endorsement of Democrat Ken Thompson.  Both Satmar factions previously backed Republican Joe Hynes, but now strongly support Thompson following his overwhelming victory in the Democratic primary.

“We are proud to stand with Democrats across Brooklyn in supporting Ken Thompson as our District Attorney. Ken will be a champion of justice and keep Brooklyn streets and neighborhoods safe. I encourage all Brooklynites to join me in voting for him in November,” said Abe Deutsch of the Zalmani Satmar community.

“We are proud to strongly support Democratic nominee Ken Thompson for Brooklyn District Attorney. It’s time to unite behind our next District Attorney so that we can have a seamless transition that will keep the people of Brooklyn safe. We look forward to working with Ken Thompson in the weeks and months ahead as he brings a new vision to our criminal justice system,” said Rabbi Moishe Indig of the Aaroni Satmar community.

"We are united behind our nominee Ken Thompson for Brooklyn D.A. The voters of Brooklyn have spoken and we join them in urging every community to support Ken Thompson once again on November 5th,” said Peter Rebenwurzel of Flatbush.

Crown Heights Community Leader Rabbi Chanina Sperlin expressed his community's  strong support for Ken Thompson, saying, "We look forward to Ken's fresh approach to the DA's office, with his focus on keeping Brooklyn safe, while protecting the rights of all its citizens."

“I am deeply honored to have the overwhelming support of Brooklyn’s Orthodox Jewish communities,” said Democratic nominee for Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson. “I plan to work together with every community to ensure our neighborhoods are safer and stronger. We are united to restore the principles of justice and integrity in the District Attorney’s office.”

In the past week, in a show of unity for District Attorney nominee Ken Thompson, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, Mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio, the Brooklyn Democratic Party and dozens of elected officials, community leaders and activists announced their support for Thompson’s candidacy. Leaders announcing support for Thompson this week include: NYC Comptroller nominee Scott Stringer, Borough President Marty Markowitz, Councilwoman and Public Advocate candidate Letitia James, Assemblymembers Walter Mosley, Joe Lentol, Karim Camara, Councilmembers Diana Reyna and Darlene Mealy, Committee Chair Frank Seddio and many others.

In an historic upset, Ken Thompson was elected the Democratic nominee for Brooklyn District Attorney on September 10th becoming the first African American and the first candidate to unseat an incumbent Brooklyn D.A. since 1911.

Thompson has also earned the support of the Working Families Party, all four members of the Brooklyn congressional delegation - Reps. Jerrold Nadler , Yvette Clarke, Hakeem Jeffries and Nydia Velazquez, Councilman Brad Lander, the good government group Citizens Union, Communications Workers of America, District 1, National Latino Officers Association, NYS Supreme Court Officers Association, Amsterdam News, Assemblyman Dov Hikind, former candidate Abe George and New York City's largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare Workers East with 100,000 members and retirees in Brooklyn alone.

Today's endorsement also comes on the heels of endorsements for Thompson from the New Kings Democrats, Bay Ridge Democrats, Lambda Independent Democrats, Brooklyn-Queens NOW PAC and Muslim Democrats of New York.
