Video: Marc Maron Riffs On Hasidic Williamsburg
At a live taping of WTF at The Bell House in
Brooklyn, Marc Maron does some standup about his first time experiencing hasidic Williamsburg. As you hear his Lower East Side hookers remark, realize that so many people have seen the same thing that making it into a joke about hasidim is very easy to do.
Several years ago, I spoke with an Orthodox Jew who worked for many years with New York City street kids. He named two particular pickup spots – one for male gay hookers and the other for female hookers – and told me that it was regularly full of hasidim looking to buy the sexual services of these kids.
[Hat Tip: HeathenHassid.]
well certainly this foulmouthed P.O.S. is the world's authority.

not really funny because he has no insight into the Hasidic community. All he knows is that they exist in Williamsburg and he feels uncomfortable around them.

Nothing funny, clever, or breaking any new ground in this performance.
I'll agree with Gevezener Chusid- too much reliance on the F word tells me he has nothing really funny to say.
The mark of a good comedian is when he or she is telling you something insightful and clever, with a twist. None of that is found here.
And, I was expecting a video.

This guy needs a good thesaurus, the missing half of his brain and access to Trip Adviser and/or Yelp.

Hilarious. Have you people no sense of humor?
This is how I feel not only around Chasidim but Yeshiva people too. Hell I feel that way around Modern also.
But I'm stuck believing in Har Sinai. Somebody get me out of here.

Why are you guys complaining? He's very real. It's a real, visceral account from a neurotic Jew. Maybe you're just not familiar with him. Listen to it a few more times, you'll eventually hear it differently. I like the fact that he expresses awareness that they're not all "rabbis," but that he just is conditioned to feel as if they are - it's as if in his reflection he realizes that they Hassidim cruising for prostitutes were just guys, like in any population, the kind that cruise for prostitutes, and they happen to be Hassidim. I love Maron, he's great.
