I'd hate to be a gentile or non-hareidi Jew living in that pig-sty (apologies to pigs for that). If the hareidim want to live in their own filth and in defiance of health and safety regulations, let 'em. I just hope and pray that they don't inflict it on others.

My kids live on that block. This is not what succos is about. The fdny was there and left. I'd like to know why they didn't even address the hazard situation.

plus.google: Your kids live on that block? Read about some of the other code violations that this web site has reported on in the past year and then tell your kids to move to a safer, non-Hassidic neighborhood.

Do they get permits to block half the street or does mob rule govern in BP these days? Never mind- answered my own question...

To max:
The hydrant gets used for nitilat yadaim.Anyway if they were to get,a violation they would have 10 days to remove the sukkah before any fine would implemented.
Posted by: put a square into a hole | September 23, 2013 at 09:44 PM
There's a sukkah born every minute.
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | September 23, 2013 at 10:01 PM
Now if it would be black kids (especially Ethiopians in need of Metzitzah b'peh) it would be racism to even mention it!!!
Posted by: C'mon! | September 23, 2013 at 11:10 PM
So if I parked my car in front of the hydrant next week I won't get a ticket? So why doesn't the same rules apply to these pious penguins. outrageous!

Sukkahs, being constructed of wood as this one is, are intrinsically fire hazards. Why the NYFD didn't tear this one down is a mystery. (Actually, probably not much of a mystery.)
Posted by: Boychikel | September 24, 2013 at 06:50 AM
Fire hydrants are for goyim.
Posted by: David | September 24, 2013 at 08:30 AM
They do this every year - clearly someone up the food chain has decided that for one week it is esasier just to go along.

To David
NO hydrants are for dogs to piss on not for people
Posted by: put a square into a hole | September 24, 2013 at 09:57 AM
A hydrant in a Sukkah??? I don't think that's Kosher
Posted by: Reuven | September 24, 2013 at 10:04 AM
Maybe dog owners should bring their dogs in their to do their stuff. It's public property after all, and no one can make them leave. (I would like to see them try to push me around in from of my German Shepherd, who looks ferocious but is a cream puff.)

The "bus stop" sign is not a bus stop. There is no city bus line on 54th Street.
Posted by: Gevezener Chusid | September 24, 2013 at 11:36 AM
True. It's not a bus stop. Only metered parking. So that makes it ok?
Get back to the main question- why did fdny leave, and why do they allow this hazard to stand? And are the news orgs so scared of being called anti-Semites that they won't cover it after it was reported by multiple ppl to Brooklyn 12 and NY1?
Posted by: Nycaye | September 24, 2013 at 11:48 AM
to the person that said "Now if it would be black kids (especially Ethiopians in need of Metzitzah b'peh) it would be racism to even mention it!!!"
you probably already are racist and what does that have to do with these people clearly ignoring laws
Posted by: plus.google.com/118254873225541656506 | September 24, 2013 at 01:38 PM
Why would you say that I am probably racist?
Because name-calling is the way to make a point?
Not in the real world.
Posted by: C'mon! | September 24, 2013 at 03:51 PM
Gevezener: Anyone who lives in the NYC would know that is not a busstop sign. Not sure where that comment came from.
Can someone please explain to me why there are bleachers in this Sukkah. Do the people who sit on the bleachers get to eat too or do they just watch? Do they have to pay? Who decides who gets to sit at the table?
to square: "10 days to remove the sukkah before any fine would implemented" Could it possibly be true that they would have 10 days every time they built it? Something political is definitely going down here...
Posted by: ! | September 24, 2013 at 07:39 PM
Sincere Apologies to Gevezener for the first line in my previous comment.
Meant to say: the red arrows were clearly inserted by someone not living in the NYC area.

Sound like a whole lot of self hating Jews on this site. For your information Borough Park happens to be one of the safest boroughs in Brooklyn. So why would FDNY or NYPD would want to create a hateful relationship with the people they are protecting. Also signs are made by NYC to make money and to penalize people for "Parking illegally".
Fire Hydrants are seldom if ever used and most of them don't even work because they get hardly checked by the city. Worse case scenario in an event of a real fire FDNY will knock down the sukkah with their axes which they love to do.
so stop your bickering you bunch of Yentas.
