Video: The Interview Haredim Tried To Stop
Rabbi Daniel Korobkin of BAYT in Toronto brought MK Rabbi Dov Lipman of Yair Lapid's Yesh Atid Party to Toronto to speak in March. Haredi leaders in the city tried to stop Korobkin from bringing in Lipman and went as far, so say, as to threaten Korobkin with excommunication if he gave a platform to Lipman, who was being vilified by haredi gedolim (leading senior rabbis) worldwide for his positions on the haredi draft and on secular education in haredi schools.

(In America, that vilification was led by Ner Israel's Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi Aharon Feldman. Both Lipman and Korobkin are graduates of Ner Israel.)
Korobkin did not give in. Lipman spoke.
Here is video of Korobkin's extended conversation/interview with Lipman:

Excellent interview -- cooked supper and washed the dishes while listening. Thanks for posting.

MK Lipman is doing EXACTLY the right thing. He's going forward promoting what he believes in despite everyone turning on him. He's defending himself and his colleagues while managing to keep it positive, not getting lured into attacking the other side. And most importantly, he's creating *practical solutions* for people who like he said have had no representation up until now.
Plus, he's articulate and poised while speaking from the heart and not coming off like a "talking-point dispenser" - very un-politician-like. KOL HAKAVOD all around!

Sure, God protects Israel. How do you know it's due to Torah study? He does what He does. You have to do the right thing, which stealing isn't.

I have always had my difficulties with the statement: Hashem protects Israel because of Torah Learning. An omniscient being with unlimited powers and intellect could not give a rats ass damn over the obsessive compulsive reading and re-reading of texts from eons passed. How can these backward cavement believe that a being of that power cares one iota about what one reads, what part of the cow one eats, whether or not some old fart has pronounced the cow fit to eat, wearing an unwashed dark suit in hot weather, making your females dress stupidly to appease not the deity but the fear of old men not getting an erection. All of this is senseless.

I don't want to criticize either of these guys, because they are trying to make things better. I just want to say I am so sick of hearing cliches. I can't listen to frum people anymore, even the good ones with the half-Hebrew/half-English and all the approved terminology achdus, and the loyning, and the chinuch, and the charedi this and that.

I'm glad he pointed out that Voloz. didn't close because of introduction of secular studies but because of imposition of an all day regime of secular studies.
