A Fantanstic Tale? Haredim Claim IDF Recruits Forced To Cut Off Peyos (Religious Sidecurls)
"The inductees were headed to the IDF Navy, the Shachar Yam program. They were told they must have a 'military haircut' and while their hair was short, the peyos must go. The soldiers instructed the barber to not to go under the 3mm setting as to avoid chas v’sholom [God forbid] removing their peyos
entirely. The barber told them it must be a 'military haircut' and they
haircut was as close as possible, removing any trace of their peyos!"
Yeshiva World reports:
Report: Inductees Compelled to Cut their Peyos in IDF Induction Center
Yeshiva World
While the Yesh Atid party continues flying the ‘share the burden’ flag, insisting the IDF can and will accommodate chareidi soldiers, some inductees arriving in the Bakum induction base were faced with a different reality – compelled to cut their peyos.
According to the HaMevaser report, “the IDF took advantage of the naiveté of a group of chareidi inductees, compelling them to cut their peyos R”L.”
The inductees were headed to the IDF Navy, the Shachar Yam program. They were told they must have a “military haircut” and while their hair was short, the peyos must go. The soldiers instructed the barber to not to go under the 3mm setting as to avoid chas v’sholom removing their peyos entirely. The barber told them it must be a “military haircut” and they haircut was as close as possible, removing any trace of their peyos!
The soldiers explained after the fact that they were not aware that IDF regulations permits maintaining one’s peyos, and they feared being charged with insubordination – so they had the hair cut as instructed R”L.
For some it was truly a nightmare, and when it came time to go home for a leave they did not wish to leave their base, embarrassed to return home without their peyos, which their ancestors were moser nefesh to maintain during the most difficult of times.
The incident was no less traumatic for some of the parents, those who arrived in the State of Israel during the early years when peyos were routinely cut off to remove any sign of one’s Yiddishkheit, as was routinely done to the Jews from Yemen R”L. Some of those parents admit they could not believe their eyes – adding this sent them back decades to those dark times, the times they prefer to forget.
Askanim add that “if the details in the report are accurate, this should send a shockwave to Jews around the world,” adding that it is clear that the shmad campaign is operating under the guise of ‘sharing the burden’.
Shas MK Rabbi Nissim Ze’ev is not willing to let this pass, and he hopes to compel a Knesset session to address this. He adds that this is an affront to the Basic Law which guarantees every citizen basic rights, including his religious beliefs. Ze’ev adds this was a blatant affront to Halacha, and it must and will be addressed, lamenting the fact that the soldiers had to be embarrassed to return home with the crew cuts that left them without any signs of being frum Jews.
The story as reported is almost certainly twisted out of context or completely false – just as many of the earlier haredi claims of haredi inductees being fondled by female IDF doctors and nurses were false.
This has all the markings of a story made up to reference the alleged Zionist mistreatment of child Holocaust survivors who were allegedly forced to cut off their peyot and to eat non-kosher food on arrival in Israel. That claim is a totem in the haredi community, and most children in radical sects are raised on stories about this alleged abuse.
That said, right now there is no way to know if it is true or false, and haredim will, of course, take advantage of that ambiguity.
Because God really cares about your haircut.

I doubt the veracity of this story. I have seen and known religious soldiers with payos. This could be an isolated incident. However, it is possible that the military requires shorter payos.

Hasidim want peyos and Native Americans want peyote.

Someone might want to tell the whole long peyos wearing world that there is no such thing as hiddur mitzvah on a lo se'asay.

The only thing consistent in your reporting is your hypocrisy. It's really funny to see which of your bullshit allegations you and all your readers eat up for lunch and believe every word you write ( such as 70% of your stories) and which ones (such as this) just simply can't possibly be true in your eyes. And by the way the Zionist do have a known history of trying to rid Jews of their faith (including what they did to the temanny Jews). But then again it can't possibly be true in your warped world.

Voice-
You are correct about past history. Now the IDF wants to attract religious soldiers, so they make accommodations. At one time, I'd have agreed with you about the dangers facing a frum person in the IDF. During the past few years, I've known several religious young soldiers who do not face discrimination.

The payes is a phallic symbol,it represents the male ginitalia, the hassidim are making a mockery out of judaism, besides when a soldier is in training his payes can be an obstacle.

One can understand the danger of peyos in a hand-to-hand combat situation, but I do have a question. Could the peyos not be trimmed back to a safe level and pinned behind the ears? Would that not be acceptable to both sides without all the breast beating and recriminations?

Long peyos are not Halachically required and in a military/industrial setting are a safety hazard as they can get caught in machinery, therefore they have to go. Let them stick to Halacha and have sideburns about 1cm below the temporomandibular joint.
It's a pity they are not as concerned about leading honest, productive lives as they are about the integrity of their peyos.

My Hareidi bull s#!t detector began sounding an alarm.
Aluf (Major General) Mandelblit, the former Judge Advocate General of the IDF has (and had)long peyot (which were tucked behind his ears).

VoT - The reasons it was right for the authorities were right to cut of the peyos of orphaned children has nothing to do with Zionism. This can best be explained by way of a famous poem. The poem was not written in Ivrit so there is no reason why it cannot be read in a Satmar shul on Rosh Hashona before reading the Akeidah. The poem reads:-
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.
Voice of Truth, you need to understand that the way Chassidim bring up their children with no education and looking as they do, to socialise them into primitivism and insularity is seriously fucked up.
Now the authorities do not generally intervene in the way children are brought up by their parents even when they are fucked up by them unless they are in imminent danger of serious harm. So children of alcoholics, criminals, or racists are not removed from their parents unless they are in imminent danger of serious harm.
However occasionally such fucked up parents die or are killed and their children become the responsibility of the authorities who become loco parentis. Are the authorities in such cases under an obligation to ensure the child continues to be fucked up as his or her parents would have wished? Of course not. The authorities can insist that a prospective foster parent does not have a criminal record, have racist views, drink to excess or be a religious fanatic notwithstanding that the deceased parents were one or all of the above.
Such reasoning has nothing to do with Zionism. It was expressly used by a judge in a recent court case in London when a mother went off the derech and successfully demanded that the children be no longer raised chassidic notwithstanding she had been happy to allow such an upbringing before she came to her senses.
So, Voice of Truth, bringing up boys with peyos and girls with extreme tznius so as to socialize them into becoming ignorant religious fanatics is seriously fucked up parenting and while the authorities will not intervene to stop fucked up parents doing so, the authorities must refuse to do so themselves should the responsibility of parenting fall on the authorities because the parents die.

@ Barry
What the hell are you talking about? Are you sure you took your meds today? Where did you see anyone discussing anything to do with the parents of these children being dead we are talking about the IDF mandatory peyos cutting off for hareidi soldiers.

VoT - The reference is to the penultimate paragraph in FM's post relating to the alleged mistreatment of Holocaust orphans by shaving off their bugger grips. This was not mistreatment but the right thing to do. So is shaving off a conscripts peyos

Barry--you are the best,i agree with you all the way the fanatical upbringing does not do any good to the children, in fact it destroys their future more often then not.
