Where exactly do you see satmar having anything to do with this ? There are three signatures all of whom are completely independent and have nothing to do with satmar.
Posted by: Voice of Truth | June 16, 2013 at 05:19 AM
The signatory on the right is Hillel Weinberger. He's Nitra, not Satmar.

Isn't it written in English? If so, they can't even read it.

i'm beginning to think banning things gets them excited
Posted by: ruthie | June 16, 2013 at 09:34 AM
I think you may be right Ruthie - can they go ban themselves? replace 'ban' with the unnatural act of your choice. It can be a verb, noun or adjective.

Ruthie-
My thoughts exactly. Everything is Ban, ban ban. It seems that anything that doesn't originate from their own rebbe's mouth is forbidden. As much as these types of chareidim contend that they do things opposite non-Jews, they tend to be similar to the Catholics with all their bans and seals of approval. Also, their attiude towards women reminds me of Original Sin.

Bas Melech, what they are really like is the Wahhabi sect in Saudi Arabia. Unlike sharia, halacha does not call for beheadings and amputations, but otherwise the kind of social control and repression of women exercised in Saudi Arabia is the dream of the chareidi leaders. If anyone is interested in the details of daily life in Saudi Arabia, I can recommend a series of mysteries by Zoe Ferraris who apparently made the colossal mistake of marrying into a Beduin family and living in Saudi Arabia, a mistake she has since corrected. If you read her books, you will see that the Saudi way of life is the direction in which the leadership of the ultraOrthodox is headed.

MM--The ultra-orthodox are nobodies who want to be somebodies, the only way they get some recognition is with theese abnormal sick chumras and edicts, they are a bunch of mentally deranged imbaciles.

Voice of Truth - This 2005 Forward article described Hillel Weinberger, the first signatory on this ban as chief rabbi of the kashrus division of the Satmer-run Monsey-based Central Rabbinical Council and defender of Mohel Fischer who killed babies with MpB.
Weinberger is also of Youtube at a Washington Demo standing under the Flag of the United States referring to the Unknown Soldier buried at Arlington as a 'sheigetzel' (offensive term for yone gentile man derived from Hebrew for "detestable," "abomination", "loathed", "blemish")

Barry.
I'm not really sure how working for an organization somehow makes you a representative of that organization. He works fr satmar just like anyone works for any other employer, they give him a pay check for the work he does for them in their kashrus department, but that does not make him a spokesman or a representative of satmar. And what relevance does the video you posted have to the story above

Posted by: Barry | June 16, 2013 at 01:51 PM
The ban clearly states that Weinberger is representing Nitra, not Satmar.
Posted by: SkepticalYid | June 16, 2013 at 05:59 PM
The Ban mentions 3 people all of whom represent different batei din.
The word Satmer appears nowhere.
Both Satmer rabbis have no problem signing bans.
Anybody want to learn how to read Hebrew?

As Bas Melech says, this reminds me of the old "Banned in Boston", where the Roman Catholic church took it upon themselves to decide what the general populace was allowed to see and read. Of course, "banned in Boston" made those movies and books super-popular in all the Boston suburbs.
