Yaffed seems like a great organization!!
Lapid and Lipman should join and learn from Yafeed.
Defense Minster Boogie Yaalon (Lt . General Reserves) already what these young folks from chassideche and ultra orthodox homes already know. ..
From Yaffeds website:
How long will it take to achieve these goals?
This is not expected to be an easy task. There is a tremendous resistance to change within the ultra-Orthodox and Hassidic communities. However, we anticipate these difficulties and will work incrementally meeting smaller, short term goals at first, and achieving a complete success over a longer period of time.

In other words, you'll drag your heels, try to weasel out of every agreement and cheat as long as possible in order to keep your children ignorant and obedient.

This shows how disconnected from Judaism the Charedim have become. If they knew Halacha they would know it is actually a Halachic requirement to teach your children in a manner that they can later work and earn a living, regardless of the fact it is also civil law which must also be obeyed according the Halacha.

And halocho teaches that derech eretz, literally, the way of the land you live in, must be followed.
In fact, I learnt in cheder that the way of the land (derech eretz) comes before torah.

"Yaffed seems like a great organization!!"
It is. I'm Facebook friends with the young man who founded it. He's very sincere and dedicated - and he just graduated from college, himself.

I am not familiar with Yaffed. What are they all about?
Posted by: Yochanan Lavie | June 06, 2013 at 06:32 AM
Yaffed is an organization that promotes secular education within the Haredi world.

Yes indeed.
14 years ago it started with Nachal Charedei, which turned into Netzach Yehuda and there are now from what I have gathered cruising Hebrew YouTube ,Facebook, Wikipedia etc there are at least three other units that charedeim can serve.
As the IDF prepares itself to mdeal with charedeim soldiers more will join as has been happening.
Also Charedeim will cost the IDF a lot more money.
Last year when everyone was having orgasms with the ending of the Tal Law I prepared a calculation of the cost of drafting all the potential charedeim that some nut jobs thought would get drafted in August 2012.
They recently announced a Mehadrin Glatt kosher kitchen on the Nevatim Air Force base. I have come across some obscure references to a different type of Charedei unit there..they also have had a Charedei unit in the Tel Nof Air Force base that has already produced Charedei Air Force officers.
Per the Brig. General that commands the base this Charedei unit produces more NCOs and officer willing to sign up up for the professional AF than any other group. And the AF is taking them.
Defense Minister Yahalon's has the right idea.
Cut back on subsidies create more opportunities for charedeim and slowly and surely more of them will go willingly. As more and more people see that they can go to the military without major compromises in lifestyle and that people come out of the military frum and with job skills more and more will enlist.
Even Rabbi Shteinman is not against serving in the IDF. He is against a mandatory draft of everyone.
Air Force bases are perfect places for charedeim to serve.

Isn't a Jew required to respect the laws of the country of their residence unless they prohibit shabbos and brisim?

Finally, some common sense... Cepthat that Brooklyn billboard keeps airing our frumma laundry. (Previously Lipa.) Do we really need everyone on the Prospect Expwy googling Yafeed?
Posted by: typadder | June 06, 2013 at 06:22 PM
You wouldn't think you'd need the Gemara to teach common sense, but we see otherwise. If I told my grandfather whose father emigrated from the Ukraine penniless and who struggled through the Great Depression that I wasn't going to work for a living he'd faint on the spot from having a moron for a grandson. But somehow our leaders are classified as geniuses while having such thoughts.

Hey, Thanks for the yaffed.org link.
From their website, I would characterize them as a grassroots organization that is putting a lot of effort in stating some plain old fashioned common-sense. They should appeal to people who are still in touch with reality.
