Haredi Poster Against Christine Quinn Treats Her Like Enemy Of Jews, Says Her Name Should Be "Blotted Out"
Yiddish posters were hung up in Borough Park calling for NYC mayoral candidate Christine Quinn's name to be "blotted out" – a curse reserved in Jewish practice for enemies of the Jews like the biblical Haman and the Nazis. What did Quinn do to deserve this? Be a lesbian.
The poster also attacks Congressman Jerrold Nadler, apparently for his support for gay rights:

At least give credit where credit is due. You pulled this off from my twitter feed.

jews haven't been discriminated enough i guess.
here they are doing it to others!!!!
so wrong.
christine quinn is a lesbian.
so what?!
christine quinn is also:
1. very smart
2. quite compassionate
3. very polite
4. an excellent politician
5. tries to do the right thing
6. RESPECTS JEWISH PEOPLE
7. would make a wonderful mayor
i hope she wins. she is a wonderful human being.
new york city will rise to new heights of greatness if christine quinn
is elected. solely because she is a wonderful person. her being a lesbian has nothing to do with it.

Perhaps Anthony Weiner is promising more financing for their welfare state.

The reference to Quinn relates to her call that Chick Fill A leave NYU's campus because of the company's financial support for groups opposing gay rights. The poster refers to
'The Haters of Israel have risen with evil intention to ..
fight using propaganda against the God fearing, such a C Quin (may her name be blotted out), City Council Speaker, who said not to buy at a company which financially supports those who strengthen purity.'

I've reached a state of what might be called 'outrage fatigue' at what Haredim do. Until their rampant welfare fraud and everything else they do that's wrong is investigated which might offer some hope of breaking their political power there's little to be done about them.
I suppose there's some point in regularly posting evidence of their foolishness / corruption / perversity however this most recent poster of theirs follows in the vein of so many others that I've reached the point of shrugging and saying 'yup - they're still assholes' - and going on with my day.

i went to new square this past friday to do my shabbos food shopping. it was lovely. everyone was so nice. it was a pure pleasure.
it hurts me to know that they would without doubt agree to this poster.
SML you're right...until they stop their welfare/food stamp/medicaid/section 8 and welfare fraud....they shouldn't say anything. nothing.
it's so frustrating.
this post, of course, includes holy monsey. does it ever!!!!!!! even more so since i consider the people in new square, in a sense, prisoners.

The torah says NOTHING about lesbianism, despite tortured attempts to read it into the torah.
I don't often disagree with Ruthie, but Quinn engineered Bloombitch's third term. I am not a New Yorker, but if I was, I would never vote for her. I don't care if she's gay, straight, upside-down, or sideways.

BTW hilary clinton is gay but has not come out of the closet, yet.
Posted by: ruthie | June 02, 2013 at 07:41 AM
and i respect your opinion yochanan.
you know why?
because you're not judging her being gay.
you're judging her as a human being.
i didn't know she engineered blombitch's third term.
but then again, i wish i knew as much as i don't know.

YL & Ruthie: I'm a bit confused. From the little bit that I've read, Quinn often was at odds with Bloomberg over policy. She endorsed his primary opponent, Bill Thomson, before the 2009 election. Given those facts, how did she engineer his reelection?

? i don't know.
but i believe anything yochanan would say or write.
he's the best.

She, as City Council leader, helped overturn the term limit law on Bloomie's behalf. Until recently, she was his ally on most issues, and even became mortally offended when someone mildly insulted His Worship.

I get "outrage fatigue" too. I will use that expression when I'm speechless.

I just read a New York magazine analysis of her flip-flop on term limits. Their opinion was that she wasn't ready to run for mayor in 2008, and didn't want to come into the position right after the financial crash. The easy out was to ensure that Bloomberg had another term. It's quite interesting. Still, it does NOT justify the y's curse some Haredim placed on her. She's been very supportive of the Jewish community. Additionally, she blocked electronic fingerprint ID for food stamp users (an issue near and dear to the Haredi leadership) and advocated for NYPD surveillance of Muslims.

This is HILARIOUS.....I don't really care who gets elected Mayor of NYC...living out here in beautiful Colorado, I really don't care who get elected Mayor.
But after reading this article, I'm kind of hoping that Christine Quinn DOES get elected Mayor of NYC. Just to make the Haredim squirm.

What this does is render the phrase "yimach shemo" entirely meaningless. Just like "Nazi" or "Amalek" or any of these superlative terms referring to the *worst possible enemy* of the Jewish people, which charedi extremists so liberally toss around. Which makes you realize - to them, anyone who has the slightest disagreement with them, or who doesn't do things exactly the way they want, IS evil incarnate. It's essentially the mentality of a 6-year-old. (No offense to 6-year-olds.)

Well, so far they haven't succeeded in blocking out Christine Quinn's whole name, but the haredim (at least the one who wrote this poster) made a start by excising her second N.

excellent point.
to lessen the evil of nazis is unspeakable.

YL is right..it's a marriage that's at issue. A couple in BP, for many years lived down the street from me, I know their story, everyone knew..still very religious.

I forgot, the children they had were also considered.
Posted by: D | June 02, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Maybe they were referring to comedian Colin Quinn?
And how come they don't call to blot out Anthony Weiner? Because his shmeckel is too big to blot out?
Posted by: Sarek | June 02, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Maybe they're only cursing her because she performs oral sex on non-bodek vaginas?

You should all emulate David and Solomon?

That's about it - although I'd add that a six year-old, by contrast, can often be reasoned with.

Jacob –
I didnt. My source might have (unless he took his own picture or was given one by someone else). Since I regularly credit people who tip me to a story and story sources unless they request otherwise, why would think I wouldnt credit you? I credit Yeshiva World. I credit Chabad (and you know how I feel about Chabad). Why wouldnt I credit you?

It seems that the "Blotted Out" acronym could be referring to her given name Christine, which they've only indicated by the initial "C."
If I understand it correctly, the statement mentions that she has spread propaganda against those that fear Hashem by discouraging people from shopping at businesses owned by those who make money strengthening purity, whatever that means.

"If I understand it correctly, the statement mentions that she has spread propaganda against those that fear Hashem by discouraging people from shopping at businesses owned by those who make money strengthening purity, whatever that means."
There's a restaurant chain, Chik-Fil-A, that is owned by conservative Christians and has given money to organizations that oppose same-sex marriage and other civil-rights issues pertaining to LGBT people. Some months back, the LGBT community organized a day of boycott of their restaurants. The evangelicals reacted by organizing a day of support for them.
Apparently, Quinn was supportive of the boycott. Haredim and evangelicals have joined forces because they've found that apart from a few trivial doctrinal differences, they are united in the observance of their true religion - far right wingnut Republicanism.

Ruthie,
Do you live in New York City?
(Just curious.)

Don't you think there might be some secular Republicans? I say this as someone with mostly contempt for the GOP.
