Video: Eric Salgado Lies About Dangerous Haredi Circumcision Practice, Says He Will Fire health Commissioner If Elected
Appalling: In a new low, New York City mayoral candidate Eric Salgado lies, claiming "rabbis" agreed to a DNA test to prove metziztah b'peh (MBP), the direct mouth-to-bloody-penis sucking done by many haredi mohels after cutting of the foreskin, does not transmit herpes to newborns when in fact, haredi rabbis ordered families not to tell the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene the identity of the mohel who infected their baby. Salgado also misrepresents the science of the issue and its history.
I've written extensively over the years about DNA and herpes. Basically, it works like this:
• The lesion has to be tested, but lesions come and go very rapidly – so rapidly that a mohel who infects a baby on Tuesday is unlikely to have a visable lesion by the tame the baby's illness is apparent – and are notoriously difficult to test.
• A herpes carrier can transmit even when no lesion is showing.
• Even if both the transmitter and receiver are tested, getting a match is difficult – and this is true even when the only way for the virus to have been transmitted is from that transmitter. That's largely due to the nature of the herpes virus.
• Mohels have consistently refused to be tested.
• Haredi rabbis have repeatedly refused to mandate testing and have instead successfully tried to obstruct it.
Past all this, long before Salgado made this video, I sent Salgado a list of hundreds of cases of various types of serious disease transmission to babies from mohels who did MBP on them. I asked Salgado to explain his position on MBP in light of this data. Salgado did not respond.
So Salgado is not simply ill-informed – he's a liar. And what that says about him as a human being, let alone as someone who wants to be in a position of authority over people, is truly appalling:
Update 10:55 pm CDT – Here's the longer version of Salgado's remarks that opens with Rami Cohen's endorsement of Salgado:

In 2005 the charedeim didn't really have to do anything to wiggle out of MBP issue.
Mayor Bloomberg decided despite all of the evidence of the dangers that he want to ensure the Charedei vote and ordered the NYC Dept of Health to back down.
Bloomberg and the charedeim are to blame as well as the current pandering politicians.

First of all, the man's name is Erick Salgado.
Second, he has about as much of a chance of being elected mayor as Aaron Hernandez does. I never heard of him until now.
Salgado, however, does make a good point. The NYC Department of Health komissar, Witch Doctor Thomas Farley, should be fired. Not because of this issue, but because he's trying to dictate to NY'ers what they must eat and not eat. And he's using restaurant inspections as a method of bullying and extorting money from restauranteurs.

That video looked like it was made in someones
dining room filmed on an iphone. Delgato knows he's not even close to be considered Mayor, so he took a quick donation. Any smart goy would do the same

This is important journalism here because what FM is showing us is how joined-at-the-hip are the charedi mafia and the corrupt politicians. This should tell one to be careful when dealing with either. You thought you lived in a country with a justice system and you thought the religious leaders were in any way religious. Nope. So you found out both were frauds. Yep. Worse, you found out they work together. Now that is f'ng scary.

Eventually a child will die as a result of MBP. The mohel will be charged with murder. The parents will be charged as accessories. This will hit the national media like a brick through a window. The press will eat this up. It will destroy political careers. It will rip the orthodox community apart as they would rather the seculars and non-jews not pay a whole lot of attention to this. The mohel and parents will do jail time, lots of it. They may have to pray that this is not viewed as a capital case. State authorities will come down really hard on all parties in order to cover their political ass.
The leaders of the orthodox community with their largely uneducated spokespersons will look like they are trying to obfuscate. They will stop looking like the delightful "Fiddler on the Roof" anachronistic image that they attempt to promote. They will look like the insular and intolerant bunch that they really are. They will have no idea how to handle this. They will scream anti-semitism in hopes of garnering support. There will be none, as they are quickly shooting themselves in the foot.
If it happens in Texas, the mohel and the parents will have needles in their arms within 5 years.

No wonder prostitutes have a higher ethical character than politicians. This is one candidate decent human being should ever support.

"Eventually a child will die as a result of MBP."
Alter Kocker –
Several children have already died from MBP-transmitted herpes, and tens of thousands died from other MBP-transmitted disease in the years before there were antibiotics and antiviral drugs.

That's probably true, Shmarya, but babies also died just as readily from ordinary circumcision because nobody had heard of sterile techniques and of course, there were no antibiotics nor antiviral drugs.
Add to that the zillions of mothers who died from sepsis giving birth, for the same reasons.

"If it happens in Texas, the mohel and the parents will have needles in their arms within 5 years."
Unfortunately, the evangelicals who run the state of Texas are the sort with whom the right wing Orthodox have gotten into bed in recent years. They'll protect them as they would a Christian.
Texas tends to reserve the death penalty for those it considers to be *real* criminals - liberals, gay people, Obama supporters, etc.
