Rabbi Menachem Schweib was indicted Friday for allegedly giving a prisoner he was teaching with drugs, the Times of Israel reports based on a Israel Channel 2 report.
Schweib heads a yeshiva at the Shita prison in northern Israel. He allegedly gave Itamar Sha’altiel, who is serving a life term for murder, cigarette boxes containing an unknown drug on at least three separate occasions.
In return, Sha’altiel allegedly gave the rabbi money and other goods. Schweib is charged with taking bribes, fraud, breach of trust, and bringing illicit substances into the prison.
Schweib pleaded not guilty. His attorney claims the rabbi wanted to “aid a prisoner in need” and did not know there was anything in those boxes other than cigarettes.
he thought they were antiquities .

there is no end. were these people brought up in homes where immorality was taught, were the rebbes of the past generation this corrupt?
I think it's all inbreeding and tertiary herpes from MBP.
Furthermore, the fact that so many of them are getting caught does not seem to act as a deterrent.
Just as anti-gun laws will not act as a detrrent, the criminals will always obtain them, or bombs.
APC, what is wrong with a bissel besomim.
Aided moshrabbeinu al har sinai to remember, (or was it his Iphone, which he lost amongst the chaos when he descended to find the egel hazahav)?
And it helped the Ari, so why knock-it?

Even if it's not the most grave sin to try to "aid a prisoner in need", it's not exactly modeling lawful behavior either! Which is part of the problem with the religious leadership in Israel - a "do what you can get away with" attitude toward the law of the land.

APC:
OH, yes, I was not familiar with that story, just having become BT yesterday.
Would be hilarious, if it were not.
And, also, mass cheating to avoid taxes, is a mitzvah, I forgot. This is not Tzarist Russia, and no matter how much one might despise the gubmnt, it is non-defensible. OTOH, I hear that there is this Bernstein LLC that does the E-Rate applications for all of the Charedi schools and their website boasts that their applications are so impeccable as to "undergo minimal scrutiny". That sounds good, I wonder if they do 1040's as well. Then I will not be cheating the gubmnt.

He wanted to get caught, so that he could personally experience what it meant to be a prisoner in need. In this way, he can better serve them in the future. Probably by training his successor in smuggling.
