Sorry, but there is no reference in the article to a "nuclear accident". It says quite clearly,"after the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that wrecked Japan's Dai-Ichi nuclear plant." There is no hint whatsoever that any deaths were nuclear. They are just saying that the accident caused a certain drop in construction of such plants. Quite clear - I do not understand where SR gets his weird interpretation.

None, 19,000? Who cares- they're goyim! (Sarcasm).

I thought Hashem killed 19,000 japanese as divine retribution for the 3 chassidic drug smugglers?

"...Sorry, but there is no reference in the article to a "nuclear accident". It says quite clearly,"after the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that wrecked Japan's Dai-Ichi nuclear plant."..."
Hey, Chief Hole-in-the-sheet: Read that first sentence again about the accident at the nuclear plant that they said killed 19,000 people. What do you think they're talking about? Overflowing toilets? Get real, please.

"Sir why the bicycle repair man?"
"See" says the prez,"proves that nobody gives a damn about the arabs...."

Are you really that dumb; the article is blatantly referring to the nuclear reactor accident.
Posted by: Joe Field | April 07, 2013 at 11:11 AM
when was this puplished
Posted by: seymour | April 07, 2013 at 11:35 AM
The article is typical of the Haredi education level. Given that the article is derivative of english-speaking mainstream media, and read by a person with likely lower than high-school comprehension level, it is therefore a given that it would be misinterpreted when regurgitated in a publication targeted to a similarly less than educated audience.
Posted by: Alter Kocker | April 07, 2013 at 11:42 AM
Well we all know you can be whatever you want in the Haredi world without any formal education. You know, a therapist, economist, PR dude, media consultant, etc. All without even the basics of language skills. And, what are facts? Who needs them when you opinion is based purely on ideology.
New Haredi motto, "If you feel it you can be it!"
It is sad and comedic all at the same time.
Luke.

I call bullshit on the claim that no one died as a result of the explosion and subsequent meltdown of 3 reactors at Fukushima.
Some workers at the plant were definitely exposed to lethal doses of radiation. And that accident is nowhere close to being resolved. There will be many more morbidities related to the release of radiation from Fukushima.
Posted by: dapper danny | April 07, 2013 at 01:25 PM
I agree dapper. But the point here is that the 19k deaths were caused by the tsunami.
Meanwhile, fish from Japan have floated to the U.S. west coast glowing in the dark.

For crying out loud, every day people die in Japan, WTF has that to do with the accident at the nuclear plant. The fact is that the deaths are a result of the tsunami, stop trying to justify the misinformation, with the article in the Bloomberg Business-week article citing a study coauthored by John Ten Hoeve, speculating that there might be in the future 1300 cancer deaths attributed to Fukushima radiation spill. Nevertheless, eventually nobody will be able to actually verify the correlation, between Fukushima Radiation or, any other exposures.
Posted by: Joe Field | April 07, 2013 at 08:29 PM
Joe... The correlation between radiation exposure and morbidity has been known since Madame Curie cooked herself with her experiments. There has already been a significant, measurable increase in thyroid abnormalities among infants and children from Fukushima prefecture.
Anybody who claims that there were no radiation-related fatalities from the Fukushima or Three Mile Island accidents are full of shit.

Please, don’t be an idiot and don’t tell me anything about radiation my MOS in the military was 54E "Nuclear, Biological, And Chemical (NBC) Specialist, I forget more than you will ever know. The point is that you are trying to exonerate an inaccurate statement by a publication, and you are resorting to the study as prove that people already died when the study is about the future and that established that the Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster MAY eventually cause approximately 130 deaths and 180 cases of cancer, mostly in Japan, that is what the Stanford researchers have calculated. Stop the BS, the world didn’t come to an end that Mishpacha Magazine misrepresent the facts, and don’t know what they are talking about, why you need to justify their ignorance falls me.
Posted by: Joe Field | April 07, 2013 at 10:24 PM
I could not give a fuck about Mishpacha Magazine, nor do I justify their ignorance.
However, I will always call BS on those who claim that there were no radiation-related deaths at Fukushima, TMI, or Chernobyl.
Posted by: dapper danny | April 07, 2013 at 10:35 PM
dapper Danny;
My job was to protect battalion size troops after an attack from Nuclear (radiation), Biological, And Chemical exposure, to calculate the downwind and how to maneuver battalion away from danger, with the least amount of casualties and exposure. Furthermore, I was assigned to the Pershing missile 56th field artillery unit. Yes mobile nuclear missiles, that was in the European theater.
Posted by: Joe Field | April 07, 2013 at 10:42 PM
Um, I didn't mean to set up dapper dan with my remark about fish glowing in the dark. I think he was responding to that.

Posted by: dapper danny | April 07, 2013 at 10:35 PM
Stop the game; it is much easier just to say ok I understand, I didn’t really mean it. Besides stop defending your original willingness to defend the article in Mishpacha Magazine which erroneously claims that 19,000 perished as a result of the nuclear reactors partial meltdown. You cited the study, and claimed that the study in the future “1300” cancer deaths attributed to Fukushima radiation spill. I decided not to challenge your numbers; the fact is the report states that in the whole world, between 80 and a 130 will eventually die due to this partial meltdown, not 1300 as you claimed. I reasoned everybody in entitled to a mistake, so I will give you the benefit of doubt.
Now you claim that “you will always call BS on those who claim that there were no radiation-related deaths at Fukushima”, who claimed here that there was no radiation, and yes there will be but as I said before, if someone get cancer that doesn’t necessary prove that it was due to this exposure, and the actual studies takes 20-30 to confirm the death. Not a few years.
Nevertheless, you are now doubling down, and it looks like you drew an A’s.

The problem is how we understand “never again”. For me it means “never again innocent human beings shall be slaughtered”. For most of Jewish religious fundamentalists and nationalist radicals it means “never again shall we be on the inner side of the barbed wire fences”. I afraid we will never achieve a consensus...

How sad that in the various Chasidic and orthodox publications you don’t see any mention of the holocaust. And none of the yeshivas have any specific holocaust studies. It is really sad that when these children grow up, they are under faults impressions like Deremes and, don’t really understand what really happened and they take away the wrong conclusions. Every year I make a point to go to the Temple in my neighborhood as a get together and remember the six million and others who perished under the Nazis.
Posted by: Joe Field | April 08, 2013 at 11:26 AM
The frumma cannot mention the Holocaust to kids, otherwise children start asking "where was God? Didn't the rebbe know? Why weren't Jewish prayers answered?"
Joe Field, thank you for several excellent informative posts.
