Haredi Newspaper Censors Women’s Faces From Iconic Photo Of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising
Shmarya Rosenberg • FailedMessiah.com
The special Passover holiday supplement of the haredi newspaper BaKehillah blurred out Jewish women's faces in the iconic photograph of the liquidation of the Warsaw Ghetto after the uprising.
The photo, reproduced above, is the iconic image of Jews with arms up marching toward their deaths. In the lead is a small boy wearing shorts, a pea coat, and a cap. His hands are raised above his head. At his side is a young woman, her arms also raised above her head. Behind and to the side of the young woman is a little girl. Behind them are men and women, boys and girls, small children.
In BaKehillah’s version of the photograph, all the faces of the women and girls are blurred out, and the little girl in the front left of the original photo is completely cropped out.
BaKehillah’s editor responded to questions about the censorship by acknowledging it was done for “modesty” reasons. He also claimed the censorship “honored” the memory of the martyrs who were murdered by the Nazis.
“We honor the memory of the martyrs of the Holocaust, and unlike [you in the secular press] - respect our readers and bring them only what they need and want to see,” Avraham Dov Greenbaum told Ynet.
Haredi publications in Israel and the US have repeatedly censored out the faces – and somethimes the complete bodies – of women and girls. Many even censor "modestly-clad" female dolls and chaste female cartoon characters.

"Why do you keep floging a dead horse."
Oh, let's see, bubbeh:
* First, they blurred out, female children and dolls from advertisements, Jewish or not.
* Then Women, adult and teenagers from same and news photos.
* Then they started to remove Females in positions of power or authority from news' media.
* Then they went and blotted out , or completely removed, Jewish females that had been killed or passed away, from news articles, even if they were about them.
* Now they are erasing from the mind of this subculture the very existence of Jewish Women that had died in the Holocaust.
See the pattern, chief?. Care for a horse whip?.

Good lord.....you know, it's occurred to me....that the haredi's treat probably treat dogs...better than they treat women.
This IS one of the iconic photographs of the Holocaust. To blot out a woman's face is an insult to their memory.
Disgusting. But what else should we expect from them at this point?

This "newspaper/magazine" succeeded in doing exactly what the nazis couldnt do--wiping out the (female) jews. Congratulations!

The English Hamodia, Erev Pesach issue, published in New York, has a magazine insert devoted to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. The article, belittling the Jewish fighters Hy"d, says that dying fighting bravely is not a Jewish virtue. The magazine only glorifies those who sat hidden in the ghetto studying Gemara or baking matzah.

can you post it or send me a copy I tried to find it online and could not find it

we must scream and shout about this nonsense
today's crazy chumrha become tomorrows chumrha, and the next generations norm
Posted by: seymour | March 28, 2013 at 04:21 PM
Oh, come on, now you're going to dispute the authorship of the most famous Holocaust writing, "The Diary of Sam Frank"?
Posted by: Ken | March 28, 2013 at 01:59 PM
Ok, I get it......it's their way. They blot out the female face - period, and this is in a publication intended for that target audience and only that target audience.
Thank you, Shmarya for posting this (and like stories) so the TRUE idiots - the liberal Jews who give money to these people to support this lifestyle as some form of "real" Judaism - get to see where their money really goes, and what ideas and ideals it helps keep alive.

"Being that this is a legal activity"
Oh, really? It might not apply in this case (image may well be PD), but do you know whether the rights owners of altered photographs approve of the alterations? I seriously doubt it.
Any 'news' photo from a wire or agency is doctored without authorization. So, if doctored it is likely used without authorization (i.e. stolen). So, yeah, it's news.

Let's look at the positive - they didn't alter the photo to give the boy a black hat and peyos.

Here is a very short silent newsreel filmed a century ago showing how some of London's women dealt with the Church of England's opposition to women being given the vote.

Compares to these ladies, today's Jewish women are a pushover.

Klein's pleadings reveal how important these stories are. Hey Klein, why don't you start your own watchdog blog against haredi excess? [snicker]
Posted by: DK | March 28, 2013 at 10:00 AM
I'll say it again, why don't they just vote the women off the island. Case closed.
Luke.

Since Haredim seem to dislike females and blur their pictures, might we suggest that they no longer qualify for marriage. Simply put, should they not eschew marriage and reproduction?

Who's waiting for these wackos to take it to the next step and remove all female references from scripture? Adios, Queen Esther.

Here we see first hand why theese chassidim have so many abusers, molesters, pedophiles in their midst, they are repressed from childhood on they think they are better then others, but the exact opposite is true, they are a failed cult that needs to be put back in its place, in the forests of europe.

Why do you keep floging a dead horse We know they do it and you have brought countless of incidences . Do you think one more is news
And no it's not the same as reporting each and every sexual or financial wrong doing Doing that does a lot of good both for the victims and general puplic . It also exposes the perverts and reminds us how vigilant we have to be

Very moving and well stated, Ruthie.

Blotting out pictures of women from this scene implies they were turned on sexually. Rabbi gave the order to save others from Warsaw Ghetto porn.

THAT'S A CULT

Mr. Klein, I'll try to make my point clearer. Supposing I find pictures of beards offensive. Now if I published a picture of the Satmar Rebbe with his beard photo-shopped out, what would be the reaction of the Satmar chasidim? (I'd have to run for cover.)
Posted by: Chief Hole-in-the-Sheet | March 28, 2013 at 04:50 AM
my mother survived the warsaw ghetto.
her 17 year old brother did not.
she saw her father taken away with her 8 year old sister.
she witnessed januz korzak leading the children out.
that's when she cried...went to her parents...in the ghetto...and said
they took the dr.
if they take the dr. we don't have a chance.
she is the only one of 8 children to have survived in her family.
for them to blot out the faces is....
so stupid that i DO NOT RECOGNIZE THIS AS BEING THE YIDDISHKEIT I GREW UP WITH. blotting out faces...they should
be respecting them...not blotting them out.
they are sick sick people these hasidim.
so sad.
my mom came from a hasidic family.
and she was so very kind.to.everyone.
blot her face out? why?
why blot out one face of a woman who suffered because she was jewish....
Posted by: ruthie | March 28, 2013 at 03:55 AM
You don't get it, Mr. Klein. Yes, "we ALL know there are charedi publications that blur out female pictures". But when it comes to iconic pictures such as this one, it is obvious that a lot of non-"unzerer" will be insulted. And you and I both know that rather than simply not print such pictures they concsiously print them KNOWING and WANTING that the shkutzim will be insulted. After all we are holy and they are trash, so we must do such things.
Posted by: Chief Hole-in-the-Sheet | March 28, 2013 at 03:19 AM
Haredi Nuts.
Klein, you are wrong. This needs to be brought to light and as often as possible because we tend to forget and give the bastards the benefit of the doubt all the time.

In reality, these idiots are simply demonstrating their profound disrespect for the women who were murdered and further showing that only the men "count" as human victims. They would probably deny this, but the gradual disappearance of women in public life and denial of human status to women (forbidding them to drive and/or vote), has meant that their community is a worse place to live than a polygamous Islamic society. At least the Arabs work to support their wives!

oh, for F*cks sakes!
This is way past into serious Extremist Religious fueled Mysoginistic Mental disease territory. The mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts and other Jewish Females in one of the most famous pictures of WWII need to be censored (and stricken from history) because it may give a sexually repressed depp a b*ner?; But I guess the menschen in the crisp, cut, grey-green uniforms herding them to the trains bound to the concentration camps is just fine to show.
Extremist Haredim men: Your prisoned female ancestors=Sexual temptation!, Wehrmacht/Gestapo troops=Eh, just manly bachur doing their jobs, just like us.
You don't "honor the memory of the martyrs" by erasing their presence from reality, you putzes.
Oh, the sheer stupidity, it burns!. >.<

Nigritude Ultramarine, you just don't appreciate the ehrliche haredim. They get so worked up over women (and young girls) marching to their death because they have a bigger yetzer hara.
Because they are on a higher medreyga.

"BaKehillah’s editor responded to questions about the censorship by acknowledging it was done for “modesty” reasons."
I appreciate the concern they have for their readership. I know that I get all "worked up" whenever I see women and girls marching toward their demise.

rebecca m., there are many forms of haredi Holocaust denial, and they should be forced to debate on every single one of them.
Posted by: DK | March 27, 2013 at 10:27 PM
No Klein, I salute Shmarya for bringing this to his readers attention. People need to understand what ultra-Orthodoxy means in terms of revisionism and disrespect. After all, their are new, usually young recruits to these haredi sects every day, thanks to the Kiruv movement, and people need to know what these fanatics are really about.
Posted by: DK | March 27, 2013 at 10:25 PM
Hareidim: The new Holocaust revisionists.
There is something so wrong with that.
Posted by: rebecca m. ross | March 27, 2013 at 10:24 PM
Quite frankly, I find the pictures of the Nazi soldiers far, far more offensive than those of the Jewish females.

Theese brain damaged chassidim just dont learn they keep repeating the same things over and over, their infantile childish behaviour does not serve them well they better change their attitudes if they dont want to be despised.
