The founder and spiritual leader of the Sefardi haredi Shas political party Rabbi Ovadiah Yosef attacked the head of the Yesha Atid political party tonight. Speaking during his regular Saturday night public lecture, the 92-year-old Yosef reportedly called Yair Lapid “a wicked yeshiva hater.”

In his talk tonight, Yosef also called Lapid “contemptible” and compared him to the arch enemy of the Jewish people from the biblical story of the upcoming Jewish holiday of Purim, Haman.

“Every time he [Mordechai, the Jewish leader] would come to the king, they would talk about security, about the coalition and the opposition. Everyone would be discussed between them and he would give him advice on how to act: ‘Don’t go with Lapid. He is wicked, he hates yeshivas,’ Yosef said.

i have no idea whether lapid actually hates yeshivas and if he does, who can blame him? yeshivas have brought nothing but misery to israel. they not only serve as a breeding ground for terrorism as we have seen in beit shemesh, meah shearim, the intel factory, etc. , but have also fostered the thinking by which old ignorant men have control over every israeli's lifecycle events.
and if that werent bad enough they have slimed their way into govt. funding of these institutions via coercion and fraud even as they violate state rules of required curriculum. the coup de grace is that yeshiva 'students' get to avoid serving their country for 3 years while not risking their lives as do other israelis.
yet despite all that, lapids publically stated position is that he has good feelings towards yeshivas and judaism. he has more than one ortho rabbi on his list, including his second in command.
yosef is responding like a dishonest child . that lapid is against yeshiva guys being able to avoid the army indefinitely while on the govt. dole doesnt mean he hates yeshivas and certainly doesnt make him evil. i'm sure ovadia would be against a program in which any israeli who plays and studies basketball all day would be exempt from the army while getting paid to do so. that wouldnt mean ovadia hates basketball. for him to say that lapids opposition to the status quo not only means he hates yeshivas but that he is "EVIL" shows how dishonest he is and to what level he will stoop to get his way.

History will determine how "wicked" Lapid is, but the fact that he stands ready to strip the yeshivas of their stipends and the Haredim of their "special" rights is a matter of record.

It's rather why he garnered as much support as he did - now let's see what he does with power.

the rav favours those who want to learn to do so
all others must join the service in many different ways beneficial to am Yisrael
