A member of Shomrim of Baltimore, Maryland received a certificate of appreciation for helping free a woman trapped with her children in a storage locker – in San Francisco, California.
The San Francisco Police Department awarded the certificate to Yitzy Schleifer, Shomrim’s dispatcher.
Schleifer took a call from a confused, hysterical Spanish-speaking woman who apparently mis-dialed her phone as she tried to get someone to free her and her children from the storage locker in San Francisco.
In Shomrim’s Baltimore, Maryland dispatch center, Schleifer took the panicked woman’s call, stayed on the phone with her, and was able to get enough information from her to pin down her location. Schleifer then called the San Francisco Police who rushed to the storage facility and freed the woman and her children unharmed.
"In deepest gratitude for your outstanding performance of duty in helping an individual in San Francisco who was trapped in a lock storage facility with her children. Such an example of dedication is worthy of the highest esteem by the City of San Francisco and the San Francisco Police Department,” ," the certificate, which was signed by Chief of Police Gregory P. Suhr, reportedly reads.

How refreshing to see Shmarya posting a positive - yes a POSITIVE - story about an orthodox Jew. Never thought we would live to see the day. I wonder if Shmarya will one day run a blog about positive aspects of orthodox Jews? Assuming more than a single case like this exists?
