In the ongoing haredi infighting leading up to Israel’s national elections January 22, Sefardi haredi Shas Party founder and spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef used his regular Saturday night public lecture to castigate Rabbi Amnon Yitzhak's breakaway Koach Lehashpia party and Rabbi Haim Amsellem's Shas breakaway Am Shalem.
”Such a party represents merit [acquired] through transgression,” Yosef reportedly said. “How dare they oppose our well-established party which has decades of experience and the support of Torah authorities?”
Torah requires that we understand Torah Law and then we have the purpose to challenge any authority who speaks heresy. And I will proudly take up that charge.

With apologies to the old Russian political joke...
A Catholic and a Haredi are seated next to each other on a flight. The Catholic boasts of the freedom to dissent in the Church. "For example, we can even criticize the Pope if we want, and nothing will happen to us."
"With our rabbis, we also have such freedom" responds the Haredi, proudly. "We too can criticize the Pope and nothing will happen to us."

One can only be chosen for it - by him the rabbi. To be a rabbi does not belong to the list of human rights, and no one can sue to obtain it. the rebbi calls those whom he desires. Nor could any human being publicly question or challenge the teaching of the rebbi contrary to nature, it is only a performance that belongs to the rebbi and the office of the high priest that is controlled by goons who isolate the rebbi and make him do and say all kind of non sense, its time for moshiach to come already

The joke is that Shas, of course, was a break away upstart religious party formed when R. Ovadia Yosef felt he was insulted by the Litvak world.
