Haredi Group Wants To Ban All Women From The Kotel, Western Wall, Says Zionists Bring "Hookers And Gentiles" There
“Under the burden of the Zionist occupation [the Kotel has become] an entertainment center, Heaven forbid, which attracts gentiles and hookers who arrive to corrupt this place of Divine presence, Heaven forbid…every gentile head of state [is brought to visit the Kotel and the state holds] different shows [at the Kotel including] the swearing in of soldiers of the impious army."
Haredi Group Wants To Ban All Women From The Kotel, Western Wall, Says Zionists Bring "Hookers And Gentiles" There

In response to pressure levied by pluralistic and secular Jewish groups on the Government of Israel to remove exclusive control of the Kotel (Western or Wailing Wall) from haredi and Zionist Orthodox hands, Edah Haredit, Mea-Shearim-based haredi umbrella organization, lashed out at the Kotel’s haredi rabbi, Shmuel Rabinowitz, Ynet reports.
Edah Haredit accused Rabinowitz of “damaging the sanctity” of the holy site and lamented that if Rabinowitz had just banned all women, haredi or not, from visiting the Kotel, the “evil regime” – i.e., the Israeli government – wouldn’t be trying to find a way to accommodate non–haredi women now.
The attack was published in Edah Haredit’s journal Ha’edah.
Last week, women's organizations and Jewish pluralistic movements filed a petition with the High Court of Justice against both the prime minister and the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, the quasi-governmental organization founded by the government to manage the holy site, demanding that secular Jews, non-Orthodox Jews and women be given equal representation in the management of the Kotel. The groups are also are asking the court to remove Rabinowitz.
Edah Haredit blames Rabinowitz for this.
“Under the burden of the Zionist occupation [the Kotel has become] an entertainment center, Heaven forbid, which attracts gentiles and hookers who arrive to corrupt this place of Divine presence, Heaven forbid…every gentile head of state [is brought to visit the Kotel and the state holds] different shows [at the Kotel including] the swearing in of soldiers of the impious army.
“It is no wonder that all kinds of reformists are drawn to the place, asking to hold their prayer ceremonies on the site with a mixture of men and women, Heaven forbid, and in a provocative chaos in which women wear prayer shawls and approach the amud [lectern, to serve as cantors] Heaven forbid.
"The reformists were shocked by the brutal behavior against them. [But] why can any adulterer and abuser hold a ceremony at the Kotel, while [the pluralistic groups and women’s groups] forbidden and repulsive ceremonies cannot be held there?" Edah Haredit wrote, adding that Rabinowitz was "parachuted into the job by the government to take over other holy places in the Holy Land as well, “and that those other holy places, like the Kotel, are being ruined by the "leaders of the evil regime."
Rabinowitz has been hostile to women’s groups and to the pluralistic Jewish movements.
Edah HAredit’s complaint is that Rabinowitz was not hostile enough.
Unbelievable! If it were not for "the Zionists" there would not BE a Kotel!
The Charedim must leave Israel (and go back to Russia and return to their Cosack lifestyle) so it can become a Jewish State.

Pass the barf bag.

And where is the Halacha that Gentiles cannot visit the wall. Even in Temple times Gentiles could visit and make sacrifices.

well then if you feel so strongly about the all why not defend it

Only the Jews have such a low sense of worth that they don't feel entitled to a country like everyone else. Biro-Bidzhan anybody?

Expecting rational pronouncements from the Eidah Charedit is like expecting a pro-Orthodox article on this blog.

He's right.
The last time I was at the Kotel, I didn't even have time to put my prayer ("please God, I want to get laid") into a nook before I was propositioned by a prostitute. We quickly negotiated a price (just a few shekels) and got down to business right there in front of the Wall. Since everyone else there was also with a prostitute, nobody took note. I presume she was a shiksa or a Reform Jew, since we all know those are the only types of prostitutes.
I also noticed that male prostitutes set up shop over at Robinson's Arch.
I guess Rabbi Haredit is against free enterprise.

Sarek: Nah, they just want their cut of the profits (prophets?).

I think they would be better of banning themselfs from this world,we would all be better of on second thought.

Let's play a little game of "finish the sentence".
"Under the burden of the Zionist occupation [the Kotel has become]...
How about... "Freely accessible to Jews such as yourselves to be able to daven there to your hearts' content without obstruction or fear."
Anyone else?

Sarek,
You don't understand the thought process. We need fences to protect everything yiddishkeit. If the fence is too close to what it's protecting it is not effective. We need a fence that says "No, this is not a tourist area. No, this not a place for zionist soldiers. No, this is not a nice backdrop for you TV show."
When will it stop? Maybe next yeazr we will have to allow gay movement to hold their gay marriages!

Wow, ban half the population from your holiest site. Tell me again how Judaism "respects" women?
Posted by: AztecQueen2000 | January 14, 2013 at 09:14 AM
If the Kotel is not a place for "zionist" soldiers, I am sure jihadi soldiers will be more than happy to fill for them. You remember how respectful the Jordanians and Palestinians were from 1948-1967?

Haredi Group Wants To Ban All Women From The Kotel
I don't believe it for one moment. Maybe they lament that women should not have been allowed at the kotel, but "Wants" - not true. What a difference a tense makes. There is nothing on the table to forbid women from access to the kotel.

Sounds like the hareidim are taking their lead from the NRA: fighting back with unparalleled aggressivness: Segregation now! Segregation forever! Forget any possible notion of compromise.
If the Knesset would find their balls, maybe there could be hope.

Sarek - I never took you for such a traditionalist, you know, inserting something in a crack at the wall. You did finally do it in the end, didn't you? I always wondered why it was really called the wailing wall.

Hershel - if we all did that, it would certainly rid the Kotel of the afore-mentioned prostitutes that the learned Reb Haredit has noticed and decried.

What is all this cursing the "Zionist occupation"? Zionism is the idea that Jews owned the land in the past and have a right to it now. If you do not agree with Zionism, why are you there?
Posted by: rebeljew | January 14, 2013 at 10:34 AM
Maybe the chareidim hate the "Zionist Occupation" (sic) because they think no Jews should have an occupation.

prostitutes deserve some respect too!
this guy is funny...
there is no way they can ban women...
omg...
would they have banned bruriah?
what a bunch of idiots...
their poor wives and daughters!!!

I'm fed up with these heridim mishugne cop. If women and soldiers have no place in the kotel they (heridim) have no place in Israel.we are giving them too much attention. they really should be in kfar shaul for treatment.
Posted by: flora freida | January 14, 2013 at 04:06 PM
Anyone who uses the term "Zionist occupation" is a Jewhating piece of shit. Haredim have degenerated into the enemy. They are under kares, that's why they talk this way. They're not among he children of Israel anymore, spiritually speaking.

This is all an extension of the nefarious Iranian plot to destroy Israel's economy. Ban women from the wall and 90 percent of US families will spend their copious vacation visiting instead Spain and Italy where they will have sent their daughters to art school where they will meet and eventually marry cute Iranian boys who will inherit the family fortune, including that pied a terre in Jerusalem where grandma used to walk to the wall until she turned 90....
(It's really devious and well thought out.)

haredi are alienating the west and Israel's "goyish" supporters more so than any other segment of the state. Very unwise. They are also obstructing important archaeological digs regardless of whether the sites contain verifiable jewish graves or not. Soon they will advocate shutting off the kotel cam......

Might just as well hand over the Kotel to the Al-Quds Waqf and have the Grand Mufti rename it Al Buraq Street.
Posted by: spacedout BT | January 14, 2013 at 09:31 PM
The statement, like many of the Edah, is repugnant. The Kotel is a national treasure, and belongs to all Jews. We orthodox must permit all Jews and their practices to worship there. We orthodox also deserve some of the space to pray according to our traditions.
Just one thing: I've read the article several times. Where does it say they want to ban ALL women? I may be missing it. If not, making accusations that are not accurate will not help any changes to be made.
