Israeli Police have arrested two men for extorting and blackmailing haredi men who party at Amsterdam, a decadent Tel Aviv nightclub popular with haredim looking for a forbidden release from their restrictive communities, the Times of Israel has just reported based on a Ma’ariv report posted earlier today.
Two cousins, Yehonatan Elroi and Ehud Benisti, allegedly photographed the haredi men at the club and used the photos to try to extort money from the haredi men by threatening to send the photos to their families.
Being caught visiting a Tel Aviv nightclub like Amsterdam can often spell ostracism and expulsion from the haredi community.
The blackmailers were reportedly caught after they targeted a haredi father-of-two.
The man received a telephone call demanding $20,000.
The victim asked Dudi Zilbershlag – a prominent haredi journalist, public relations executive, and businessman who was himself the target of a widely publicized blackmail attempt in 2011 – for help.
Zilbershlag was “enticed” into compromising positions by a young woman named Tom Drum during a meeting with her alone in a hotel room. The room was rigged with cameras. Drum was later sentenced to three months community service and fined NIS 12,000 for her role in that scheme.
Zilbershlag reportedly told the haredi father-of-two to report the incident to the police.
The father-of-two then set up a meeting with one of the cousins, Elroi, in which he agreed to hand over $7,200.
When Elroi came to get the money, police rushed in. After a short chase, they detained Elroi and arrested him.

The blackmailers are scum but:

This might well be a way out for some of the Charedim as there are few exit strategies available. They just need someone to support them in their transition out of the cult and into Judaism.

First you complain that they're parasites with no jobs, then you complain when they come up with a way to earn money. No pleasing you.
