If he wants to preserve the Judaism of biblical times, why is he wearing a black hat, spectacles, shoes, pants, a gartel , shtreimel or kapotes?

We must keep internet unfiltered, how else can we get our free porn?

Clowns. A person doesn't need to holding a smartphone to be "in another world" while standing in the synagogue. (In fact, some would say that's the point).

Because he is really a Cossack pretending to be a Jew?

On one hand, I'm hoping for the death of their lifestyle during the next 10-20-30 years, based upon the internet. The internet opens one up to a world of information- I didn't say knowledge, I said information- and that's why chasidic elders are scared to death of the internet- because they know that once Shmuel and Ester get online, and realize that other people- and not just goyim- don't live in poverty and aren't struggling every day to survive- then their grip on their flock will be tenuous at best.
One the other hand (as a lawyer, I always look at both sides of the argument), when you look at the African-American communities in many inner-cities- and I'm thinking of where I grew up- which was Baltimore- at this point, there is now not a second but a THIRD generation engaging in the same self-destructive behaviors that has sent so many African-American males either to an early grave, or to prison for long terms, including a number who will never leave prison alive.
Children usually learn what they live, and if you grow up seeing your mother have 5 or 6 children by 5 or 6 different fathers, and if you see wealth and influence being accumulated by gangbangers, dope dealers, and folks like them, and if you DON'T see people in the (normal) middle-class rythm of education, work, raising intact families.....then that's the lifestyle you are probably going to perpetuate.
That's how the ultra-orthodox sustain their lifestyle- each generation is born into, and perpetuates the same ignorance. BUT...the good lord willing, the internet- and access thereto- will be the beginning of the end for the Ultra-Orthodox in the United States.
I'd like to see the chasidic lifestyle disappear from the United States within a couple of generations, if not sooner. With their enforced ignorance, and their chosen poverty, they are an embarrassment to the rest of us.

There's a computer on his desk. There/s a goddamn computer on his desk.
Anyone who thinks that incremental change is even a remote possibility is a damn fool. That way of life is a collective psychosis. It's child abuse - there is no other way to see it - and it should no longer be tolerated.
Give them an ultimatum - change, or lose your kids. It really is that simple. Put me in charge; I'll have the whole thing sorted out within a year. I'm not at all interested in their sentimental attachment to a world that never existed. They're parasites; they're destroying Israel, and along with their evangelical and Islamic fundamentalist counterparts are holding back the progress of civilization.
Fucking Neanderthals. No, I take that back. Neanderthals were at least productive. These lunatics contribute nothing to humanity. Take their children away, and let them go live in gender-segregated caves.

Because everyone knows Moyshe Rabbenu wore them - and he was kept cool in the desert heat by the power of his emunah.
Anyone who says otherwise is a damn kofer.
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 05:06 AM
Jeff, the correct turn of phrase would be: A God sodding traifer. (Jk)
Posted by: SkepticalYid | October 21, 2012 at 07:18 AM
And why the fuck is he wearing a gartel in the office? What, his hands might slip and go below the waist?
Lunatics. LUNATICS.
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 07:34 AM
Jeff --Lunatic is an understatement,i would say they are evil they deliberately bring hate upon themselfs and the rest of the jews, revolting behaviour that they do is in every act in their lives from when they wake up to when they go to bed it is a calculated behaviour to bring out the hate in others for them they dare all of us to do something to them this is they whole purpose in their lifes

A non-porn phone, a kosher phone?
Who must train the olem to stay prone?
So the rabbis are not overthrown?
The morons! The morons! Tradition!

he must have the steimnan rabbinical hechscher for smartphones
Posted by: thelionroars | October 21, 2012 at 10:21 AM
Jeff, the problem with incremental change is that often small steps backward is really what is happening.
Sarek, lol.
Posted by: dh | October 21, 2012 at 11:20 AM
Jeff, you're incessant, offensive comments make your argument much less convincing. When you make offensive, blanket statements about large segments of Judaism, you become a stereotyper, and ultimately, someone who is very close-minded. I am an orthodox Jew. I feel totally comfortable using the internet, and I have no filters. I see the internet as a powerful tool to help us innovate, and create technology to further our society. But according to you, I must be a child abuser, neanderthal, and I don't deserve to ever have children. Ouch.

Most likely.
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 11:55 AM
The "Most likely" was for dh.
Disappointed: If you're Haredi - yep.
And even if you're MO, you're still part of the problem. Three generations of capitulation have brought us to this point. Modern Orthodoxy is dead, and you did it to yourselves.
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 12:11 PM
jeff-Again you are right on the key word is capitulation that exactly what the rest of mo s and others did,its similar to the taliban in pakistan they just kill the other, here we have guilt that theese so called holier then thous use guilttactics that are terroristic in nature.

Disappointed--You are a big shoite fool if you see jeffs oppinion in that context i dont expect such writing for a rational person that you hold youreself to be,in short you are more brainwahsed then you care to admit.

Hey, here's a question. Rabbits are treif - so is watching Bugs Bunny assur?
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 01:02 PM
Jeff-Avade its assur to watch anything that is bitul tioreh, but for people with one ounce of sheihel it is muttar:))
Posted by: jancsibacsi | October 21, 2012 at 01:25 PM
Jeff - There are some who don't allow their children to play with "non-kosher" stuffed animals or animal toys. I'm sure you know they made their own line and brand of little figurine people plastic toys for the kids to play with. I think they call them "Mitzvah Kinder." The men have yarmulkas and beards, the women wear "tznius" clothing and head coverings. The boys have tzitzis, etc. No non-kosher toy animals for those "pure souls" to play with! Bugs Bunny? Never!! Feh!!
Posted by: Abracadabra | October 21, 2012 at 04:00 PM
Of course I am asking this to be nasty too, but don't they look at themselves in mirrors? What would they consider to be comical slovenly ensemble? What does this specimen think when he looks at himself?
Posted by: dh | October 21, 2012 at 04:10 PM

I know. My nephew's wife is expecting. Even before they married he implied his children wouldn't be permitted to play with stuffed treife animals. After all, "der Rebbe zogt", and if it ain't from the Rebbe, it ain't Yiddishkeit.
I am so disgusted with that boy I don't have the words. I won't even speak to him any longer. Let him throw his life down that fundamentalist hell-hole. He isn't my kid.
Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 05:49 PM
"boy " being the operative word.

Posted by: Jeff | October 21, 2012 at 01:02 PM
Jeff, an older Chabad shliach told me that at one point the Rebbe had said that children should NOT play with toys of treif animals (zoo animals, bears, etc.), but that it didn't stick (parents didn't enforce it on their kids).
Posted by: Shoshi | October 22, 2012 at 09:18 AM
Jeff, I didn't notice that this issue had already been addressed. And I didn't realize that people were now enforcing it!!!!
Posted by: Shoshi | October 22, 2012 at 09:20 AM
Chabad, like the rest of the Orthodox world, is becoming wackier as the years go by.
