Evangelicals do much the same thing. There is now a genre of revisionist history and pseudoscience books with a huge list of offerings, and it's growing all the time. They're creating their own parallel reality.

The Haredim are a disgrace, but the effects they have upon the larger societies within which they hide are obviously minimal (Israel, of course, being the exception, and it could certainly be argued that their coming destruction of it will have global repercussions). Most people would never even think of sexuality if they saw pictures of girls on a day care advertisement. Blotting out pictures slowly creates the association of girls and sexuality. When I shared the "girl's modesty playing cards" to people who have no exposure to haredim, they could not understand the logic because they have no association that a girl eating ice cream is a lascivious activity.

Some of the posts on this blog are scaring me.

You know what, having lived in this area most of my life, I don't disagree with blurring out children's pictures on a public photo. Child kidnapping and other abuse has become a greater risk as the area has grown, it is something we really are not used to in the Monsey area. People in this area would have difficulty handling the entire issue. 50 years ago this area was considered like part of the Catskills, a vacation resort for NYC. It is still somewhat isolated and the children and women can be unworldly (no jokes, ok) compared to locations as Williamsburg. What I am saying is that there is a real risk because of the isolation of the people. When I think of the children outside playing, and the risk of paedophile priests and rabbis, I think blurring out the faces of children on public photos may be a good idea.
