Yes, Satmar has the #s. But the protests have not been flops. Internet Asifa protest got very major media coverage. The protest against Weberman fundraiser has about 100 attendees in the course of the evening and again, they got major media coverage.

This event is in Flatbush, not in Satmar turf. I am confident that regardless of numbers it will deliver the message.

Keep in mind, the objective is not to show we have the numbers. We don't yet. Instead the top objective is to discourage donations by MO and left wing haredim to satmar and to confront the Rebbe with embarassing questions so he will feel he has a problem in reputation and fundraising outside his own orbit. Remember, the right wing of the haredi world gets a nifty amount of money from communities like flatbush. The rebbe may not have a conscience but he has an accountant, in fact probably two, at least, one for each set of books). If we start denting his income he may start paying better attention.

Obviously we will not cut off this source but we could send a message even if there is only a 10% drop in $$. If the event succeeds it can be replicated in other MO neigborhoods where they schnor and it can be directed at other groups who support molesters as well.

I wouldn't necessarily say previous events were flops. It takes a while for activist activities to gain traction. With time more and more people will join actions, such as demonstrations.

Think how small most movements that changed history were in the beginning.

In addition, even if there were not masses of people at past events, think about the news coverage these events received. Media coverage of an event is as important as the event itself. People that were victims of these predators now know that they are not alone and the general public also sees that people are starting to stand up to these monsters and the people that protect them.

To take an example of recent history, Occupy Wall Street started out as a handful of people and, whether you agreed with them or not, they certainly gained everyone's attention and changed the national discussion about a number of issues.

There is a book I really liked called "Small Acts of Resistance: How Courage, Tenacity, and Ingenuity Can Change the World" by Steve Crawshaw, John Jackson (with a forward by Vaclav Havel). John Jackson lectured at NYU last year.

The book is a collection of short stories of the ways people have found to resist injustice through ingenuity, creativity, symbolism and managed to have impact on the struggle they are involved in.

"Big changes often start with acts that looked pointless at the time: small acts of resistance, bold acts of defiance, subtle acts of subversion, even witty acts of disobedience." It is amazing how just a few people were able to accomplish so much change. The book might give you inspiration and ideas for future actions.

Jackson was behind an amazing campaign to stop companies doing business with the military dictatorship in Burma. The ads they created were briliant. I am not among those who coddles molestors or has one ounce of sympathy for those who do. I regret not using my hands to dispatch two molestors to Gehennom or at least to the ICU when I had the chance. One was given a slap on the wrist by the justice system, and the other is on the lam.

I've come to agree with Korbendallas (yes, even though I'm an Obama supporter and therefore harbor hatred of God). Haredism - all of it, not just Lubavitch - is a form of idolatry. It can no longer be regarded as an expression of Judaism; it's wandered that far afield.

In 1997, the Agudath issued a statement in which they declared the liberal denominations not to be expressions of Judaism. It's high time we returned the favor. Our religion may be a watered-down version of what came before (that would be a matter of debate), but theirs has degenerated into avodah zorah. It's become just that simple. The liberal denominations need to band together and announce that they consider most of Orthodoxy - everything to the right of OU and the RCA (and I'm really not even too certain about them) - to be idolatrous. In other words, declare a cherem.

Of course, the Orthodox will laugh and call it meaningless, but I think it would send a very clear message. As I keep saying, the schism has already taken place; we now have two religions. It's time to make the split official. I don't want to unite the divisive factions; it's gone too far for that. I want to make the division public and irreparable. Let them go their own way, with no financial support from us, and propagate themselves into oblivion.

And of course, it will never happen. As I also keep saying, the frei yidden and the Modern Orthodox are suffering from a bad - indeed, terminal - case of "Fiddler on the Roof" nostalgia. They've allowed the bearded wonders to convince them they alone represent the alter heim. Tugs on everyone's heartstrings - bubbe's kugel and all that. I will post a followup shortly on frumfollies.wordpress.com. Suffice it to say, there were 25-35 demonstrators and Zaali scurried in a side entrance to avoid the demonstrators. Loads of folks in the neighb orhood talked to the demonstrators and got educated in the process.

A number of folks complained that it was cowardly to demonstrate in flatbush instead of taking it to Zaali in Williamsburg.

However, the fact is that Satmar and other groups collect a lot of money by reaching out to the modern orthodox world. Events like this help that world reconsider its support of satmar in light of their protection of molesters. If we got some contributors to reconsider their giving we were successful. In any event Zaali has been served notice that he can now drive around to other communities making believe he is a tzadik. I hear that the Willi Satmar faction is furious and is trying to take it out on Nuchem Rosenberg with all sorts of maneuvers and threats.

It sounds to me like the ones that should know, Satmar, are alarmed. To me that suggests success.
