Crown Heights Man Sues City After Rape Case Crumbles

Darrell Dula, who is one of four Crown Heights men who was accused of turning a Chabad teenage girl into a sex slave and prostitute, is suing New York City, Brooklyn’s D.A. Charles Hynes, a former Brooklyn lead prosecutor Lauren Hersh, and Kings County claiming that Hynes and Hersh suppressed evidence that the girl had recanted her allegations against the men, Courthouse News reported.
The girl is not a defendant in the lawsuit.
Police arrested Dula and three other men on June 28, 2011. He and one of the other men were indicted on charges that they had forced the young woman into prostitution beginning when she was 13-years old. The other two men were indicted on related charges.
Dula spent more than a year in jail awaiting trial before he was released after news that the girl had recanted more than a year previously was reported by the New York Daily News in April.
Two months later, the D.A.’s office dropped charges against all four men.
"Defendants were aware that the alleged rape victim recanted her rape allegation against Dula prior to arresting and charging Dula with Rape in the First Degree," Dula’s complaint reads, alleging that Lauren Hersh, a former assistant district attorney who abruptly resigned her position in late May, withheld that information from the grand jury.
Dula’s suit also claims that Hersh and Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes defamed him at a press conference. Hynes reportedly told reporters that Dula and the other men "viciously raped" the girl and that police had "reason to believe that the defendants have victimized other young women in Brooklyn." Hersh reportedly added that the defendants had "preyed on" her since 2003, had threatened to harm her and her family, and stole the money that she allegedly made from selling sex. "It's one of the sickest cases I've ever seen," Hersh allegedly said.
Dula wants to be compensated and paid damages for false arrest, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, defamation and violation of due process.
The girl, who is now 22, was recently photographed in Israel shooting an automatic rifle at a target range.
the question will be why did she recant?
did she make it up as an excuse since she went with them on her own free will?
was she scared to testify?

I know the family. These thugs should be thrown to the dogs. They threatened the family. They totured the girl to sleep with other guys .The Scum of the earth detectives threatened her and made her sign documents saying that she drops all charges . The woman Da that left her job was the only one that helped her out

I sensed from reading the article that the girl and family may have been threatened. We don't know exactly what they are dealing with, but there may be fear of revenge after testimony. Rape trials can be humiliating for the victim. Was there a question of concrete evidence? Even if the men are guilty, which is probable, they need evidence to prove the case.
The police obviously to not understand Orthodox women. The girl would be more likely to live with the abuse of what did happen, then the humiliation more publicity may cause her family. Her chances of a good marriage are severely impacted in the Orthodox world.
So she is in Israel, shooting guns? Let me ask is that the behavior of an Orthodox woman/girl who has not been abused? No it is not. She needs someone who is kind, a good husband, to get her past the marriage stuff, and let her live a good life. (and have another look at reopening the case if possible).

THIS WAS NO RAPE!!!!
This girl was snneeking around like a hore in the streets of CH.
She thought it would be "FUN" to play around with her next door shvartza neighbors the situation got out of hand and than her parants found out and she was convinced to go to the cops. She was still screwing around with them after she filed the complaint.
Her parants made her out to be the victim when in fact she was doing this long before her parants knew about it
