And is the gist of the ad that they're offering to pray and learn so that the guy will win his court case? I didn't even know what "zchus" meant; I had to look it up. The whole concept of "merit" really pisses me off. I have NO time for people who regard God as some sort of cosmic banker. What, he's sitting up there with a ledger? Or does he use QuickBooks now?

The use of the word "price" is revolting, and 'zchus' can't be bought. Apart from the problematic concepts involved, this moronic advertisement didn't even have the sense to use the word 'donation'; they actually said: price! As for the article itself - implying that a gentile is false by nature - is offensive in the extreme. I was at services this morning, saying kaddish for a young friend. I really couldn't focus on it; all I could think about was how vehemently I detest Haredism (which I define as anything to right of Avi Weiss and David Hartman. On a good day, I may let in the OU, the RCA and the YU crowd - maybe). I really was furiously angry. I can't even speak to my nephew any longer; I told his mother to keep him the hell away from me.

I repeat what I said the other day - we need to declare, formally, that these people are not Jews and what they are practicing isn't Judaism. Haredism is a cancer that needs to be excised from the body of the Jewish people - and in my view, Chabad is the most virulent form. We tend to give Chabad something of a free pass; we regard it as being somewhat more benign than the other forms because its representatives manifest a facade of being warm and inviting. In reality, its insidious nature makes it far more dangerous than the other sects. Yes, the other Hasidim - the Satmars, the Bobovers, the Gerers et. al. - are ignorant, stupid and hateful, and they all think we're going to hell for all of eternity, Christian-style (and anyone who says that isn't a part of historical Judaism is either an ignoramus or a goddamn liar, so don't even start with me about it), but at least they have the decency (or rather, the apathy) to leave other people's souls alone as they make their way to gehinnom, and, most importantly - they aren't abducting and brainwashing other people's children. Chabad is an abomination. It's as dangerous and offensive as Jews For Jesus, and its proselytizing activities should be made illegal.

I'm sick to death of being angry all the time about these people and their obscene bedfellows, the evangelicals. I'm not interested in incremental change taking place over a course of generations. I just want them gone.

If you don't believe in the Thirteen Articles of Faith by Maimonides then you are Jewish-lite. If you start off with the three premises that :

(1) Violence is innate
(2) The world cannot be improved
(3) Time is cyclical

I have heard this answered more than once. The purpose of the goyim is to deal with the physical world (gashmius), while we Jews deal with the spiritual realm (ruchnius). In other words, goyim are supposed to be working and we are supposed to be learning and praying.

Unfortunately, the world is currently not perfect, such goyim are not fulfilling their true role of supporting our learning, that we end up having to work, which in turn takes us away from our true calling.

Thankfully, in HaOlam HaBa, all of this will be corrected. As I heard an Orthodox rabbi actually say, "The goyim will do any work we need done, like mowing our lawns, and will give us money, so we can spend all of our time communing with Hashem."

I kid you not.

My nephew has pulled this crap with me more than once. The purpose of the gentile is, apparently, to "keep order" in the world so the Jew can fulfill mitzvot. The gentile's soul is at the same level as that of an animal (iow, more of an animating principle), and his/her personality will simply cease to exist upon death. The Jew, by contrast, is inherently an immortal being. It's nearly impossible for a Jew to lose olam haba, and nearly impossible for a gentile to gain it. In the latter case, it has to be earned; saving the life of a Jew is one way. The righteous gentiles of the Holocaust all got tickets straight to Gan Eden, I assume (although I'm sure they had to fly coach and are currently being housed in the low rent district). I once got him to admit, grudgingly, that the Dalai Lama may merit eternal life - maybe - but he still thinks the latter will grab hold of his tzitzit in the messianic age and beg him him to be told about Hashem.

This is how they've brainwashed him. That boy doesn't have one thought that wasn't put there by his Chabad handlers. They lifted off the top of his cranium and poured in a bucket o' crap. And now he's reproducing and continuing the process.

I completely understand your anger. My Aunt and my cousins- on my mother's side- adopted the chasidic lifestyle after the death of our grandfather- almost 30 years ago- and they've been so brainwashed they can't see how it's 1) destroyed their lives, and 2) condemned them to lives of poverty and misery.

But I'm told they pray for me.

On one hand, I'm hoping for the death of their lifestyle during the next 10-20-30 years, based upon the internet. The internet opens one up to a world of information- I didn't say knowledge, I said information- and that's why chasidic elders are scared to death of the internet- because they know that once Shmuel and Ester get online, and realize that other people- and not just goyim- don't live in poverty and aren't struggling every day to survive- then their grip on their flock will be tenuous at best.

One the other hand (as a lawyer, I always look at both sides of the argument), when you look at the African-American communities in many inner-cities- and I'm thinking of where I grew up- which was Baltimore, although I suspect that certain parts of Boston are similar - you've got a third generation -engaging in the same self-destructive behaviors that has sent so many African-American males either to an early grave, or to prison for long terms, including a number who will never leave prison alive.

Children usually learn what they live, and if you grow up seeing your mother have 5 or 6 children by 5 or 6 different fathers, and if you see wealth and influence being accumulated by gangbangers, dope dealers, and folks like them, and if you DON'T see people in the (normal) middle-class rythm of education, work, raising intact families.....then that's the lifestyle you are probably going to perpetuate.

That's how the ultra-orthodox sustain their lifestyle- each generation is born into, and perpetuates the same ignorance. BUT...the good lord willing, the internet- and access thereto- will be the beginning of the end for the Ultra-Orthodox in the United States.

I'd like to see the chasidic lifestyle disappear from the United States within a couple of generations, if not sooner. With their enforced ignorance, and their chosen poverty, they are an embarrassment to the rest of us.
