The haredi Sefardi Shas political party’s official newspaper Yom le Yom published a signed article by its editor, Rabbi Moshe Shafir, that compared the Ashkenazi haredi school principals who exclude Sefardi girls from their schools due to their ethnicity to the infamous Nazi war criminal Dr. Josef Mengele, Ynet reports. Shafir titled his article, "When You Let Mengele Mingle With Education.”

"Who can stand at the crossroads cruelly pointing his finger left and right?,” Shafir wrote, “Who can act as if he were Mengele himself or feel like he's mingling in dreary carnal pleasure?

“How can a civilized country appoint such people to educational posts when a big part of their mission is to wipe away the regal descendants of Sefardic Jewry from their schools? What example do they set to those they are supposed to educate? Is this a lesson in cruelty, racist doctrine, pure brotherly hatred?"

Mengele is most infamous for choosing which incoming prisoners at Auschwitz would be put to slave labor, and which would be sent to the gas chambers to immediately be murdered. He also conducted immensely cruel medical experiments on inmates, most famously on twins.

The Shas party’s official website, which often features Shafir’s articles, published, "When You Let Mengele Mingle With Education,” but removed all mention of Mengele. It also changed the article’s title to, "A Little Girl's Tears."

"The comparison was aimed at the racist principals and we didn't want people to mistakenly think it was aimed at the minister of education,” the website’s editor explained to Ynet.

In July, Shafir threatened that haredim would file charges against Israel in the International Criminal Court in The Hague if haredim were drafted by the Israel Defense Forces.

He also threatened to block arms sales to Israel over the issue. Referring to the planned sale of submarines to the Jewish state, Shafir wrote that “Holocaust-type photos of dozens of children wearing yellow badges may even leave the last German submarine in the shipyard.”

Shafir also threatened mass civil disobedience, a tax revolt, and widespread riots.

Agree to disagree. Those two young men (well, they aren't so young any more, but they still act as though they are) are full of bullshit and they crave attention. They represent a great deal of what is wrong with what passes for culture in the US.

Universalizing the Holocaust is very common nowadays in the Jewish world. It trivialized the Holocaust. Jewish organizations running the gamut from secular to Haredi are all guilty. From Foxman's hysterical rantings about Gibson's absurd movie "The Passion," to Haredi children garbed with Jude stars, they are all exploiting the horror and pain suffered by Holocaust victims as well as survivors, for their own agendas and benefit. To my mind, it's morally objectionable and indefensible.

skepyid/ The Holocaust embodied every imaginable evil acts a human can devise. The operative word is 'Acts.' Racism was a huge component of the holocaust. So the analogy here is very apropo. And the shock and awe factor in the usage, could jar some erring Jews into common sense, is why I think it is used. Jews are not exempt from admonishment for vile acts. So I think you are right on the shock/awe aspect.

I very much agree that to compare any Jew to Mengele is disgusting. As a Sephardic person I totally object to and repudiate Rabbi Shafir's remarks. However, it is true that many Ashkenazi Haredi girls' schools do have racist admittance policies.

a- rabbi yosef isn't the propagandist and the propagandist isn't r' OY.
b- R' OY, maybe the spiritual leader of Shas, but he isn't a Shas official.
c- Ashkenazi School Officials, are indeed like Mengele in the sense that they sort kids according to race and decide where the kid will be going.
Personally, I think the kids are better off not going to haredi schools either ashkenazi or sefardis. But those 'sorting' them are indeed acting like Mengele.

I love Fawlty Towers. Before I'd ever seen it (it wasn't on UK tv that often, surprisingly) I saw a record in the local public library. I checked it out, took it home, and my dad put it on tape for me.

I had a 45min ride to town one day, and decided to listen to FT on my walkman. Big. Mistake.

Remember the bit with the moose's head, and Manuel saying "I speak English very well. I learn it from a book"? The previous fifteen minute wall of composure (stifling giggles and hiding muffled snorts behind theatrical coughs) came crashing down. I erupted in gales of hysterical, howling, convulsive laughter. I could barely breathe, and every time I tried to calm down I just made it worse. I was shaking, and tears of laughter were just cascading down my cheeks.

I can only apologise to any of the 60 or so fellow passengers on the 638 bus that day. An incapacitated, guffawing 17 year old girl, purple-haired, pink-cheeked and emitting joyous shrieks on a packed bus, must have been a baffling experience. No, I was not drunk or on drugs, just high on Farty Towels. Luckily, as I stepped off the bus at the terminus, I said to the driver (while pointing to my ears) "Sorry, Fawlty Towers". He just. laughed, and said "Ah. I'm just glad you didn't MENTION THE WAR!".

I'm going to have to watch it later.

Oh and dogs? They are the closest thing to god we'll ever find. True love and light on legs. Each one is like a beautiful smile, aimed right at the heart. My lab used to ride on buses and trains with me, and she'd entertain crying children, or gently nudge lonely-looking pensioners, and offer her head up for strokes until that person was smiling again. She was a gift like no other, and. it was a privilege to be owned by such an amazing being.

It may be thet Mengele is being mixed with Education. In the West we covertly have to put up with Monarch Programming. Menngele was according to Fritz Springmeier the father of Monarch programming. It is being extended from milintel areas where it is relevant for attacking or defending nation states and effective interrogation methods beyond recall.
