Rabbi Smashes iPhone, Rants Against Those "Abominations" And "Vile Villains" Who Own One
Rabbi Smashes iPhone, Rants Against Those Who Own One
Shmarya Rosenberg • FailedMessiah.com
In a synagogue in the Bnei Brak neighborhood of Pardes Katz yesterday, Rabbi Lior Glazer – reportedly called the “the preacher of uprightness” by his followers – asked his listeners to destroy their iPhones.
The rabbi ranted against the mother of all smart phones as one sat helpless before him on a table, and claimed it had destroyed lives.
“A religious person who owns this impure device is an abomination and a disgusting, vile villain,” Glazer fumed during his anti-smart-phone rant, which was reported by Devorah Ginzburg in Hebrew on haredi news website Lada’at and afterward by the Jerusalem Post.
When he finished condemning the iPhone and those who own one, Glazer recited a short prayer calling for the destruction the nation of Amalek, the biblical archenemy of the Jewish people and the rabbinic paradigm of all evil.
Then Glazer picked up a hammer and smashed the iPhone lying helplessly on the table in front of him over and over and over again until all that remained were small pieces.
Glazer’s anti-iPhone rant was part of a longer sermon calling for repentance before the Jewish High Holidays, which begin Sunday night.

Thanks be to G-d for holiness and virtue! Smash the phone and suck the penis!

must be an old version and the holy rabbi must be getting ready for the iphone 5.

I assume he was an Android fan or decided to upgrade to the iPhone 5. Someone should tell him about eBay of Craigslist.

Faker. Probably an old iPhone 3GS,... or there is a very pissed off Rebbe assistant walking around Pardes Katz right now:
"Oi, Moshe, can I borrow your iPhone for a sec?."
"No proble, Rav. Your Samsung Galaxy III outta juice?."
"Yeah,... sure. Out of juice. Your phone insured?."
"Naw, my Apple care ran out yesterday."
"(Thy be it G-d's will then)."
"Pardon, Rav?."
"Nothing. See you after the service, Mosh. Shalom."

These ultra-orthodox rabbis see the handwriting on the wall. When their followers can access the world through information, their house of cards will come crashing down, and the light of day will come pouring in. And it scares the hell out of these zealots.

The “the preacher of uprightness” will need to get that stick out of his arse to sit down after he reads this news out of the wire:
*Reuters:
"Sales of the new iPhone 5 could be double those of the previous model in its first week on the market, thanks to Apple's (AAPL) most aggressive smartphone launch plan yet, and up to 33 million iPhones may be sold this quarter, analysts said."
Better invest on a steamroller, rav.
Hey, I just became an abomination and a disgusting, vile villain!. My iPhone 5 Apple pre-order email got in!. Yes, half priced too. =D
Ah, destroy my life, Baby. ^.^

Big news here! Thanks for keeping up posted.
Maybe someone should inform Samsung and they can use it in their ads. Pay him a few dollars to smash an iPad and have him hold two Galaxy "tablets", one in each hand, declaring that these are the only kosher ones.

The tool of his destruction - information.
It is incredibly satisfying to watch these backwards troglodytes grasp at the coattails of exile, praying the impostors can maintain their tyrannical stranglehold on us as their power slips away. I think that's what they're angriest about.
Bob, I still have my 3GS. This thing is the M1911-A1 of smartphones.

Sounds like ba'al taschis. Why wouldn't he sell the phone to a non-Jew and give the money to a poor family?
Posted by: SMR | September 14, 2012 at 07:53 AM
Of course they're scared. Smartphones are, essentially, the world in your hand.
Access to every piece of information on every subject, the ability to read books/listen to music and podcasts/watch video files. The antidote to religion. in one tiny, portable case.

Actually, as a person who relies on a cell phone I've come to hate mine. The sound of it ringing, especially at inconvenient times, is so damn annoying. My plan at my retirement party is to do what this Rav did - take out my cell, put it on the table and smash it with a hammer so I can be free of it and its constant demands on me.

Idiot. Even a fairly old iPhone is worth decent money on eBay. He should have sold it instead of snashing it and donated the proceeds to Tzdakah. But the frumma don't often do that, do they? And I forgot to mention, isn't there a Halacha against "wanton destruction" of this nature? To destroy a valuable and useful thing like an iPhome is absolutely prohibited.

I think it is high time to make it illegal to destroy something that has value. The religion realizes that it is wrong, it is time for the state to realize it as well.

Well who would have thunk, me and the Rab...would be on the same page! for different reasons ;-)
I am boycotting Apple. Chinese workers work 18 hour days 6 days a week and are literally worked to suicide. All this so some corporate scum can make 100 billion a year. THERE IS THE TRUE SIN.
All of these tech gadget are planned obsolete. They do have a "kill switch." Ever notice how all your high tech gadget die in three years? =PLANNED OBSOLESENCE. The dead gadgets end up in LANDFILLS polluting the earth. This ENVIRONMENTAL DAMAGEis NOT reported or attacked by Al Gore and all the environmentalist minions because; CORPORATE PROFITS and the damage it would cause if people knew that in the 1980s France/Germany paid the Irvory Coast to take ALL its tech garbage and now the Ivory coast has huge tracts of DEAD wasteland as a result= SIN!. DELIBERATE PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE so that you shell out $500/2000 every three years.
These tech gadget also have SPY chips in them. Nothing you do on them is private. NOTHING big bro is in your business like you are some kind of criminal. Then to make it worse when big brother doesn't like your communique, your gadget has a kill switch and big bro can send your life into the stone age. BOYCOTT APPLE AND MICROSOFT. they are affront to human dignity.
btw way Utube=documentary on corporate 'planned obsolescence" which is why nothing last like it used to back in the 50/60/70s.........OLD TECHs lasted for over 10YEARS!!
or TOPDOCUMENTARY.COM great expose documentaries.

This is what Nietszche called ressentiment. These guys have little education, don't understand science or technology, so they either have to face up to their own impotence acknowledging that their followers may be smarter than them, or declare everything impure and sinful, which is the preferred path of the inferior mind.

It's a bad week for freedom of speech. The Islamic extremists are attacking US embassies over a bad movie, and the Jewish extremists are smashing mobile phones. Leaders of both groups are absolutely terrified of their followers seeing a worldview other than their own.

Would love to know the back story how the Rabbi got the phone. I am guessing that some poor follower (maybe a BT?) had one and he went to the rabbi for some blessing. The rabbi said if you give me your evil iPhone, you will have blessings and fortune. So, the guy hands over the iPhone and thinks he feels the weight of the world removed from his shoulders. And then when he sees his beloved rabbi smash his iPhone, he is in ecstasy.
Posted by: Steven W | September 14, 2012 at 12:14 PM
@John Nagle
Te movie was allowed to be made, the rabbi was allowed to express his opinion, and the followers of the rabbi are being restricted by him - not the government........
How is it a bad week for free speech?

Ah, I see GINA's off his meds again.
GINA - my partner's spare phones are 7 and 6 years old. They both work perfectly. We have a six year old laptop, and until he died recently, her father was using her old PC from 2003.
We have a tv upstairs and a DVD player. Actually three DVD players (long story) that I bought in 2000. The tv works just finee as a hook-up for DVD and Freeview, but it's analogue, so can't get a digital signal.
You know what the biggest cause of computer problems is? Something we used to call PEBCAK, at one of my early PC repair jobs.
Problem Exists Between Chair and Keyboard.
My partner does tech support for a mobile phone company, and has exactly the same issue. People not taking care of their own property, not treating gadgets/AV equipment properly. Not some fucking magic auto-destruct chip.

I dunno... a Rebbi I know is dying to get his hands on the new IPhone5, and not for the Internet. (He got rid of it after the Internet Asifa.) Apparently, there are plenty of bells and whistles besides the Internet to be worth the $. (Full disclosure: I just took appox. $XX,000.00 of profits off of AAPL OCT 600/660 options today, , and the recent rally this week gives me an addl. unrealized coupla Gs, on top of X0Gs taken earlier this year, on top of XXGs unrealized since inception of investment) I hope G-d is not too angry with me!

Listen to your shepherd(Rabbi) he needs to keep the sheep(people) in line as not to stray. And, if you do stray he will send the wolves(shomrim or police) to bring you back to the other sheep.

Don't the religious have anything better to worry about than stamping out smartphones? Maybe they should be worried about all the government budget cuts that will be coming if the Republicans take control in Washington after the elections.
If I were Rabbi Glazer, I would be much more worried about Israel going to war in the next few months.

@Rocky
What government budget cuts are you talking about?
Posted by: Milhouse | September 14, 2012 at 06:55 PM
Milhouse: Have you read about Congressman Ryan's budget proposals. As Vice President, he would undoubtedly play a major role in the budget negotiations with Congress. A Republican House and Senate would give him pretty much everything he wanted. Read about his proposals here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Path_to_Prosperity
Haredi are big users of Medicaid, food stamps and Section 8 housing vouchers, programs which would be cut under the Ryan budget proposals.
