Mazeltov Shmarya! Shkoiach for scoring the scoop of the century! Thank you for exposing this heinous crime! You've certainly struck those backward Haredim a knockout blow! Wow! What's next on your ever vigilant and tireless efforts to topple this horrible Goliath?!
Posted by: Yosef | August 03, 2012 at 03:32 AM
Not a heinous crime at all, Yosef. But if a single potential BT stumbles on this site, maybe he'll open his eyes and see what kind of cult he's about to join. These posts are worth it just for that.

Again I ask, when will this type of activity be declared illegal. This is the ONLY way that this type of activity will stop.

Did any of the women speakers complain and withdraw from teaching? I hope Shmarya followes this up with calls to the women speakers to find out if it bothers them that their pictures were not included in the ad.
Posted by: Jill | August 03, 2012 at 06:59 AM
This story begs to be followed up on. There are two main issues that needs to be followed up on.
1) did the teachers themselves ask that their pictures be withheld
Or
2) did the organization withhold the pictures
I think a couple of phone calls will help clarify this.
Any takers or do we really not give a damn.
Posted by: Mike | August 03, 2012 at 07:37 AM
Yosef-You are truly pathetic.
Posted by: jancsibacsi | August 03, 2012 at 07:37 AM
I think it's a really a question for whomever designed the Web page.
There are only two pictures (of men), and the rest are blank boxes (for women).
The pictures don't add anything, and a list of all the speakers without pictures would have been less cluttered and easier to read.
My only concern is, was this done maliciously? As one can easily see how lopsided the page looks with only two pictures. If it was done with malicious intent, then for all of their "Torah", they miss the Derech Eretz.

Just to add something else, I see from the Website that TorahAnytime 2.0 is coming.
After spending time on the site, which I didn't do before my previous post, I see that the whole site is very poorly designed.
Let's give the site the benefit of the doubt and wait until the site is updated to TorahAnytime 2.0. If at that time the problem still exists, we can hire someone to do a Denial of Service (DoS) on the site. I'm sure we can raise the funding for that.
So until then, hold tight.
Shabbat Shalom

maybe all the woman have a secret past and do not want to be exposed like maybe hookers
Posted by: seymour | August 03, 2012 at 08:21 AM
Of course the women themselves didn't want to be portrayed as empty boxes. One of the most well-known women on that list is Rebbetzin Heller. Her image is found all over the internet, including on her own website which features her picture and links to videos of her lectures.

Did anyone call Rebbetzin Heller on her take on this or is the purpose of this post to simple laugh at the haredim.

make that
simply laugh at the haredim
Posted by: Jill | August 03, 2012 at 09:09 AM
Why WOULD a woman want her photograph kept off while men get theirs in, Jill? Can YOU explain that?

Posted by: Reb Mendel | August 03, 2012 at 10:26 AM
ALl due respect: Stop kidding yourself, the future does not belong to you. If you are Haredi, mark my words: The secular people populating Israel are just beginning to wake up. For years they were willing to just let the Haredim have their own way. They really were not much of a consideration. So what if they refused military service, and were on welfare.
By virtue of your numbers, you have outed yourselves and your lifestyle as you know it is coming to an end. The Tal law is the first domino to fall. Secular Israel wants to have you pay back for all that you have taken from the country. They want you to stop taking from them and then showing them the back of your hand.
The endgame: your numbers will be forced to enter the military. Your gedolim and rabbanim are frightened that once the real world is revealed to the cult through work and military service, the questions will be planted in the starved minds of the cult members (victims). Many, if not most will begin the steps off the derech. The gedolim's power will be emasculated. Haredi culture will be returned to the margins where it belongs.
You know those "Arab Springs" you have been hearing about? Those are the results of increasing education in the muslim world and increased exposure to the internet and the world at large. Your Haredi brethren are next.

I doubt that the sponsors would have submitted pictures, if they were not going to be printed.
Rebbetzin Heller is probably laughing that at her age, she is still alluring.

"Wine all you like, the future belongs to us."
The future belongs to you?
Frankly, I don't think so. You are obviously so uneducated you don't even realize that "Wine" should be spelled "Whine" (meaning when one complains)...which shows ME- and everyone else reading your post how far you went in school, and how successful you were.
Let me guess....you are a lawyer or doctor, right?
My friend, the future belongs to those of us who are educated and willing to live in, and engage in the real world- not a pretend fantasy.
The future no more belongs to you than it belonged to slaveholders and plantation owners in the 19th Century, to the people who were blacksmiths in the 19th Century, and to the people who built televisions using vacuum tubes in the 1940's and 1950's.
But you can still join the real world.

It begs the question why women accept this treatment and remain members of this cult? As long as they allow themselves to be second class members of this cult it will continue. Imagine if most of the haredi women left for some other version of Judaism.

This is their world, and as long as the people playing in it have no objections, I do not see where I have a dog in the hunt.
Nice giggle - nothing more,
Posted by: Rebitzman | August 03, 2012 at 11:49 AM
Guys, you have it all backwards. It's because the women speakers are so much better than the men, and no one has to be reminded which is which. Without a picture, no one would be able to tell the men speakers apart. They all just say, "Chazal say..."
:)
Posted by: Kirly | August 03, 2012 at 11:55 AM
Maybe the women's pictures are there, but our filters are not letting them through! ;-)

Posted by: Dovit | August 03, 2012 at 09:59 AM
That is the point is it the women themselves that do not want their pictures posted for religious reasons or is it the organization that has a problem with the pictures.
Posted by: Jill | August 03, 2012 at 12:21 PM
Shmarya, you got the story wrong. The haredi world has harnessed goyish genetic engineering using MOs to produce women without faces. This dramatically reduces temptation. Next they will go after pedophelia by producing children without bodies. But change has to be gradual.
Shmarya, instead of criticizing them you should have complimented them on adopting modern technology.
As an added bonus, having the teachers of females be faceless also reduces the possibility of lesbian crushes on teachers. In their wisdom the haredi chachamim are implementing the ancient wisdom pertaining to bas malkah Leifer.

Posted by: Reb Mendel | August 03, 2012 at 10:26 AM
Please. What future? Your numbers are outstripping your ability to provide for yourselves, and you refuse to educate your children, so they can't make a living outside of your world.
At the end of the day, how many mashgiachim and peddlers of holy seforim do you need?
Posted by: Jeff | August 03, 2012 at 04:18 PM
I'm glad that they do this type of shtuss. At least it lets people know what extremists they are. Do they actually think that people stumbling across this site won't notice the preponderance of "no photo available" boxes? It's beyond odd----it's ludicrous.
If this school persists in not showing women's faces in their marketing, then any self-respecting woman should not show her face in their school (i.e., not attend).
Posted by: Gefilte Fish | August 03, 2012 at 04:52 PM
BTW, to all of you out there who persist in saying that the future belongs to the frumma because they are out-reproducing the rest of us: I've long stopped donating to any frumma charity, so you guys are on your own as far as I'm concerned. You want to screw like bunnies and have 15 children? Do it on your own dime. I predict that your children and grandchildren will come to their senses and only give birth to as many children as they can afford to support.

I would not form any conclusion until *SOMEONE* (hint, hint) picks up the phone and calls *ONE* of the *MANY* women in the ad and finds out definitely if (a) they wanted to have their picture posted and (b) if they are are upset by being excluded.

In the rebbetzins' defense, maybe they had lousy sheytels and didn't want their children's shiduchim to be ruined...
Perhaps in addition to kosher diapers, wash cloths, tooth brushes, they should be producing kosher hijabs for the rebbetzins so that their photos may be posted. Or would exposing their eyes be too sexual?
Posted by: Rebbetzin Hijab | August 06, 2012 at 07:44 AM
I know the people who run this organisation including the web master. Just like the content on the website the people who run Torahanytime are from a "broad" spectrum of orthodox Judaism from MO to Dati Leumi to Chasidik. There are shiurim on Torahanytime.com that like this blog harshly criticise Charedi culture and their organisations, there are shiurim that advocate it also. Even if this website censors pictures of women, it certainly does not censor information. I think this article is misleading, this web site despite the lack of a female 'mug shot' is a massive Kiddush Hashem.
