I understand why the parents didn't want to go through with the stress of a trial. However, because of the plea deal eventually this butcher will walk the streets again. Also, many details such as the NAME OF THE DOCTOR who prescribed all of these prescription drugs to the butcher is still not known. Many others are thrilled that this case did not go to trial because too many embarassing details would not doubt have been released.

I beleive in new York, he's required to serve 85% of the term. That is 34 years. Given the nature of this particular crime, I think it is a safe assumption that he'll die in prison.

as much as i hate this man for the crime that he commited. i cannot bring myself to wish on this man death, or any of the other vile things that other posters on this forum seem to be able to bless levi aharon with.

this man is obviously a evil human being with a tortured soul. but that does not give us the right to wish on him such evil things. how far removed from progress have we become, when we start harping back to the outdated biblical dictum of an eye for an eye?.

when these stories of sentencing and punishment of criminals make their way into the press. in my opinion it is a good time for a person to ponder the role and goals of punishment in our society. is punishment revenge as many on this forum seem to feel, or is it a combination of prevention revenge and punishment, or maybe its something else. i dont think there is any right answer to this question, but i do think that our time would be better spent discussing and debating a question like the one above. rather than everyone jumping on the bandwagon of evil hatred blame and cynicysm, why dont we use this forum that shmarya provides for healthy intelligent discussion.

You know very well that Levi Aron was N-O-T adopted.

Past that, you know that once someone converts, that person is a Jew, and if he sins, he sins AS A JEW. The Rambam and many other halakhic sources make this crystal clear.

I have read too many news items where people were released on parole that I never thought in a million years would walk the streets. There is a recent one of a man who murdered a child and kept his skullcap (bone) as a souvenir. They could no longer hold him in prison. I wish I could remember/find the name. It just happened last year.

Also, the same people who oppose the death penalty are working overtime to have lwop and life sentences barred. They want to be like europe where the top sentence for premeditated murder is about 15 years.

As a matter of fact, Republicans have been fighting to reduce sentences in the name of fiscal savings. So far as Aron is concerned, NYS historically is not so quick to release violent criminals, even when they are octogenarians.

It is a horrible crime this man committed and a child was murdered and cut up. However, there is a lot of blame to go around for this. This man Aron Levi was in a bike accident as a child with a head injury and it sounds like he had frontal lobe brain damage from this injury. The effects of this is that a person completely lacks social skills and is extremely compulsive which Aron. Yet nobody mentions this and it says a lot that the truly brain damaged we vilify as this man was vilified even before this happened as some weirdo and loner when in reality he had brain damage which people of this type can be very meticulous with this type of brain damage. Which is a form of autism. REAL AUTISM. NOt fake autism to get money from the government. HE SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN TAUGHT TO BE A BUTCHER WITH HIS BRAIN INJURY EFFECTING HIS ABILITY TO SOCIALIZE. In fact an employee interviewed said ALL I AM GOING TO SAY IS I AM AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER. But someone with a brain injury that effects social ability should be taught how to use butcher knives. But are society is so screwed up and so many fake people pretend they are disabled that the truly disabled we don't even recognize that certain things can't be taught to them depending on the disability. If he wsn't taught to be a butcher this would not have happened of the boy being chopped up by someone wanted to be an equal opportunity employee for someone with a frontal cortex brain injury. Shame on us for not even mentioning this aspect to it. This isn't some fake illness he had. He had a legitimate brain injury to his head that he suffered as a child and it is pretty obvious. He sounds very much like this Golfer in Canada that also had a serious head injury with frontal lobe brain damage as a child that he could not socialize normally although became a great golfer (but quit the PGA tour because he was afraid of all the attention and the other golfers didn't like him as he was compltely socially ackward due to his brain injury to the point he. I read this story many years about this golfer and he sounded similar to Aron in his type of behavior.

I THINK THIS MURDER IS HORRIBLE BUT I THINK THERE IS PLENTY OF OTHER BLAME TO GO AROUND and he really was brain damaged and we clearly want to vilify someone like this (this was before this happened) and it shows our lack of any sense of decency. Everyone who knew him said there was something wrong with him and he had a head injury in a bike accident that did cause him problems exactly like this golfer of being unable to socialize in any way and being very obsessive compulsive. One more post on another which should be read. One afternoon in the spring of 1987, a boy named Levi Aron fell off his bicycle. Or perhaps the accident occurred in 1986, when Aron was 10. But in recounting the incident for friends, Levi Aron always stressed the same thing: The accident changed him.
Aron was a nebbishy kid, shy and withdrawn. He was born into a large family that moved between Brooklyn and Monsey, a Jewish community in upstate New York, before settling in a three-story house in Kensington, just over the eastern boundary of Borough Park, their lives half in and half out of its tight-knit Hasidic universe. Aron’s parents, Jack and Basya, were Orthodox and exceptionally devout. He was not. He attended shul but had trouble concentrating. Scripture—the same scripture that other yeshiva students devoured with ease and pleasure—was to him an impenetrable wall. Someone who remembers him from the shop recalls Aron as a “lunatic genius,” completely antisocial but able to remember the location of every item in the store, down to the last screw. The managers assigned Aron to the back room, where he helped manage inventory, out of customers’ view.

THIS IS A SIGN HE CLEARLY HAD A BRAIN INJURY FROM THIS ACCIDENT WHICH HE HIMSELF CLAIMS. And the constant hate that most showed to him caused this crazy overreaction when he found out that a search was made for this kid which from this article he only wanted to kill when he was worried when the kid was missing. In his own mind he thought he would be charged with kidnapping and whatever and with HIS BRAIN INJURY and his strange behavior because of it they likely would have had serious charges brought anyway to be honest with you with what I am reading.

So this story is terrible on all sides. A kid is brutally murdered by a man with clear brain damage to the part of his brain that effects social skills and causes a person to be very obsessive and this kid himself was shown little sympathy for something that wasn't his fault and deserved sympathy not hatred which he got much of his life that he did not know what to do with this child who in his own mind they he would have faced kipnapping charges if found alive and his own father didn't even like him. And yet all people want to do is make this man as a man sent out to do this which doesn't seem to be the case.
