Do we know who that person is? Was he someone high up, or some low level chabadnick who may not represent the chabad point of view. This is akin to stopping some random person in the street and taking all that he says as representing what "America" says about current governmental issues.

Chabad blogs and news websites are full of this crap and have been for at least four years, and Chabad rabbis across the world have given speeches and d'var haTorahs saying essentially the same thing Fishman's Chabadnik said – and you know it.

But instead of admitting what you know to be the truth, you lie.

This snippet needs to be contextualized. I haven't read the book, but it is a timely and difficult subject. One academic whose research is actually in this area is Jerome Mintz. I was very sorry about his passing:

As for the topic of why cultural patterns in the Chassidic world persist long after their natural cultural context: many a sociologist has speculated, and stumbled. Perhaps someone skillful from the inside will eventually shed light on this subject.
