Triangle-K Issues Statement On Hebrew National Class Action Lawsuit
Triangle-K threatens to sue anonymous detractors – if they make their names known. Rabbi Aryeh Ralbag writes that “outrageously false and defamatory allegations have been made by anonymous disgruntled individuals against Triangle–K products in a complaint filed in court against the company that owns Hebrew National.…The court complaint is filed on behalf of 11 consumers, none of whom claims to keep kosher…The fact is that, contrary to the defamatory allegations, Triangle–K has substantially increased and improved the kashrut supervision on Hebrew National products since it began its supervision in 2004.”
Here is the whole Triangle-K statement as a PDF file:
Triangle man, Triangle man
Triangle man hates particle man.
They have a fight, Triangle wins,
Triangle man

Ralbag fired a shochet who was living with a non-Jewish woman. Was the shochet working for AER?

they did good for them
I do see a different tactic the way HN is answering the accusation and SMR.
SMR just attacked and shamed the accusers but really did not answer the question unless I am not (miss)remembering correctly.

Whoever wrote the point-by-point refutation of the lawsuit's allegations deserves a promotion.
Whoever ruined it with the defensive and hyperbolic preface should be fired.
If the same person, he or she should be treated for schizophrenia.
AER either keeps attention on what they control (quality of the products) or let themselves get suckered into a pissing contest that just gives the plaintiffs a public platform. You take the high road while driving on the low one.
PS to Shelly: none of the 11 plaintiffs claim to keep kosher because they are representing a class that includes ANYONE who bought HN products, even non-Jews. Stupid of AER to attack the representative plaintiffs like this, since it is irrelevant to the claims about the quality of the products. Makes them look like they've got something to hide when they probably don't.

correction: should say, You can't take the high road while driving on the low one.

Anyone honest who worked for HN will testify that their guidelines are below any kosher standards; Period.

Growing up, the Ralbags & Triangle-K were always the subject of vague aspersions: You were supposed to avoid products with their hechsherim, but no one would go on record saying why. This always bugged me. Perhaps a court case can get this out in the open once and for all.

Meir, this interview might shed some light on the issue for you:

Also, here is an article about Triangle-K taking over supervision at Hebrew National back in 2004:

Bizarre! Why would someone who is not kosher care about the level of kashrus of HN?

ARGGGGHHH!!!! Read the complaint (or the comments here). The suit is a consumer action, premised on the COST of the products being higher because of the claimed "stringent" kashrus processes. The plaintiffs class (if certified) could include non-Jews who say they paid more for HN because they believed it was higher quality beef.

ConAgra used Business Wire (pay to say) to promulgate a statement that the lawsuit is without merit. You can read it on the ConAgra website:

As of this writing (9:43 PM CDST 20 June 2012) the big three daily newspapers in NY City have not run anything about this lawsuit. Either the fix is in, or newspapers realize the impact of reporting lawsuits not originating by a governmental agency.
