A haredi mob attacked an elderly Arab in Jerusalem Saturday night following a violent haredi demonstration against Sabbath desecration. The mob also attacked an Arab mother and her two children, Ynet reported this morning.
 
The attacks took place near the haredi neighborhood of Mea Shearim.

"The haredim used to just yell 'Shabbos,' but the situation is gradually escalating, and now they throw stones at passing cars and set up roadblocks. We call the police, and when a squad car arrives they [the haredim] run away. When the squad car leaves, they return. It's a kind of game,” an eyewitness who lives near the scene of the attacks told Ynet.
 
Saturday night, several dozen haredim – mostly teens and pre-teens, according to Ynet’s eyewitness – stayed at the intersection of Nevi'im and Dvora streets after the demonstration there ended "in search of a victim.” The mob “surrounded an elderly Arab man, shoved him and threw stuff at him. It could have ended in a lynching. I immediately intervened and tried to help him. They [the members of the haredi mob] shoved me, threw garbage at me and called me a 'stinking leftist.’” After that, the haredi mob attacked an Arab woman and her two children with belts while yelling "death to Arabs." "It was frightening, sad and disgraceful," the eyewitness said.

Border Patrol officers called to the scene dispersed the mob without making any arrests.

The New York Times Magazine story, to be published Sunday, outlines multiple incidents of molestation by at least three teachers and coaches at the Horace Mann School between 1978 and 1994 and describes the school’s discreet response, which did not involve telling cops or parents.

One student, who was abused for years, eventually killed himself. So did one of the teachers quietly forced to resign after complaints from the boys.
