Lauren Odes, a large-breasted 29-year-old from New Jersey, says managers at Native Intimates lingerie company told her to tape down her breasts to reduce their size and dress in sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt because she was too hot for the company’s Orthodox owners.

Native Intimates is owned by the Native Group International, which is controlled by Abe Nissim.

Odes wore a shapely black dress to work and says was told by her supervisor that she should put on an a loose-fitting bathrobe or go and buy new clothes. The supervisor then put the bathrobe on Odes and tied its belt.

She says she was later called by managers and fired.

Odes appeared at a press conference with her attorney, Gloria Allred.

She also claims to have a recording of a company manager that supports her claims, the New York Post reported.

Regardless of how aggressive they were in robing her, it's still a stupid compromise; if her clothes were that disruptive they should have sent her home. Forcing an employee to wear the "company bathrobe" is unprofessional and creepy. When I worked as a temp for a bank (on the 20th floor, nowhere near any customers and in a wing with only three other co-workers) and showed up wearing jeans, my supervisor printed out a page from the employee handbook and gave it to me, saying I had to come "appropriately dressed" in the future. That's how you handle something like this, not by breaking out the boob tape.

@Bas Melech - as far as I know there is no fat protection for employees. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's not one of the protected classes. As a fat guy myself, this is a subject that is close to my heart. Studies have shown that fat people earn considerably less than non-fat people, that we are passed over for promotion, we are not hired as readily, etc etc etc.

As for breasty women - my working experience in offices (37 years) indicated that many women find their breasts or other physical attributes to be advantages in hiring and promotion in most offices, and that male employees and less attractive employees are passed over. As Erin Brockovich said so succinctly in the movie "They're called Boobs, Ed.

And anyone at all who claims this not to be the case is lying or possibly very stupid.

It would be nice if everyone could be professionally dressed, modest, faithful to their spouses, businesslike and mature, but that isn't happening.

This girl is quite possibly riding the current wave of anti-orthodoxy to come up with this asinine lawsuit. Or just maybe she tried arousing the attention of the employer and it backfired on her.

You misunderstood my question. I'm questioning the biases inherent in your hypothetical example, which implies the hypothetical husband can't keep it in his pants. I'm saying that unless there was a reason to think he might be unfaithful, I wouldn't assume that merely having a housekeeper with a chest would cause marriage problems.

And to go back to your original question, I would not say the hypothetical housewife necessarily committed a crime-- but I would say she's manipulative, insecure, and doesn't trust her husband worth a damn. So, yay?

Every couple of weeks in New York, some business owner, along with their PR rep, comes up with some gimmick to get the wire services to cover as weird news. A while back, some street front pizza joint near the United Nations announced the worlds most expensive pizza - $1000. They put all kinds of crap on it. The story went out over the Reuters wire. Some DJ on German Radio's overnight program even told the story a few weeks later. How many pizzas were ever sold at that price is unknown.

The focus of this blog should be the irony of an Orthodox family in the business of selling sexy attire most of which can't be worn on the street.

The mainstream media will NOT follow up on this story - what the EOC finds, whether or not the extortion plan, uh, a settlement, is reached, or if the lingerie firm is penalized by the government.

As adams notes, "this is bogus". The woman claims she was called on the phone and fired. But she does not say if she was fired by an employee/manager of the lingerie firm, or if she was called by the temp agency and told the lingerie firm was not happy with her and she should leave and await another assignment.

Also, some readers here seem to be under the impression this business is a retail lingerie store. It is actually either a manufacturer or wholesaler (can't tell for sure). They are located in above-street level offices in what has traditionally been the lingerie section of Manhattan's garment district.
