But the order to release Sicarii gang leader Yosef Meir Hazan restricts him to his aunt's home in Bnei Brak and a synagogue near it, and prohibits his return to Jerusalem until his trial.

Yosef Meir Hazan, a prominent militant in the extremist ultra-Orthodox Sikrikim (Sicarii) group, was released from imprisonment to house arrest at a hearing on Wednesday in the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court.

Hazan, 21, was indicted last Thursday and charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of aggravated assault against a police officer, and rioting.

Hazan will be under house arrest at his aunt’s residence in Bnei Brak until the end of his trial and will be under the supervision of a rabbi familiar with him, his aunt and his mother.

Despite the state attorney’s objections, Hazan will be allowed to attend morning prayer services for one hour and similarly will be able to leave the residence for an hour for afternoon and evening prayer services, accompanied by his supervising rabbi. The court requested a deposit of NIS 10,000, and signed guarantees of NIS 8,000 from Hazan and each of his three supervisors.
