If the benefits were directly attached to time in yeshiva, that is, students would have to punch cards at time of arrival and sign out at the end of the day, we would see the end of this system immediately. Yup, that's what we're dealing with.

I'll repeat my thought from the other thread:
I think the only way for those outside Israel to help is to cut off funding.
If Israeli emissaries (incl UJA, AIPAC etc)hear enough people tell them "I'm sorry I cannot give this year, or next until Israel stops funding haredi hooliganism" then perhaps alarm bells might ring in the cabinet room and give Israeli leaders some spine to do what's needed.

Without a shock to the system such as a steep loss of outside funding, Israeli politics will ensure haredi power.
I think then the future looks more like this:

The gov't quietly bends to more haredi demands. Foreign companies such as Intel decide it's not worth staying in Israel. Educated Israelis start leaving out of disgust and due to lost jobs as the big companies leave. Haredim become an even greater percentage of the populace. Other companies leave or close due to an increasingly hostile environment and the higher taxes needed to support the haredim on a smaller tax base.
And the cycle continues until there is no more Israel as we know it.

Otherwise, as is painfully obvious by this report, we will see Israel as a victim of a protracted civil war.

I don't question your analysis and my comment was a very local one. The battle of Beit Shemesh is one they will not win because the Americans will not stand for it. As to the rest of Israel, that is another story. The Americans will band together to save their town, the rest of Israel is too fragmented to mount a successful assault. The playboys of Tel Aviv don't care what goes on in the ghettos of Mea Shearim or give a shit about the seating arrangements on a minor bus route within the ghetto.

Even better, here's what I'd love to really see happen:

All of these ultra-orthodox mothers are given mandatory military weekend service similar to the U.S. National Guard (except that the key word is mandatory)-if they refuse, they lose their welfare benefits and that will be it for them. Job and socialization skills would be taught, along with a wider knowledge of the world outside of the religious school (the weekend service would be on Sundays and some alternate Saturdays).

Also, I'd love to see U.S. and Canadian aid offers be contingent on this requirement, as well as the one posted above-if the haredi aren't reigned in, the aid will be greatly reduced (the U.S. and Canada need to deal with domestic issues anyways, one of them being homelessness in both countries.) Religious extremist have to be taught to exist in this world, or else.
