Haredi Man Who Spat On Woman Released On Bail
Menachem Manes Simon was arrested on Wednesday after a woman filed a police complaint against him claiming he had spat on her in the street. He was brought for a remand hearing that very day, but Judge Hagit Mac-Kalmanovich, Vice President of the Beit Shemesh Magistrate's Court, ordered his release on bail. An indictment against him will be filed in the coming days. The suspect, part of fanatical groups in the city, was uncooperative during the investigation.
Court releases haredi man who spat on woman
Beit Shemesh police arrested 10 haredim in past few months who attacked women for immodest attire. Latest suspect released on bail

While Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ordering a firmer hand to be taken against women's exclusion, the legal system appears less eager to fight the phenomenon. A Beit Shemesh resident arrested on Wednesday on suspicion he spat on a 42-year-old woman was released after a court hearing.
In the past few months, the Beit Shemesh police arrested 10 haredim in relation to attacks over immodest attire and sex segregation.
The suspect, part of fanatical groups in the city, was uncooperative during the investigation and called the officers "Zionists." His attorney Yair Nehorai, said in the hearing: "The law does not allow a person's arrest based on lack of cooperation. His lack of cooperation stemmed from religious reasons and his lifestyle. His right to remain silent should not play against him."
The lawyer noted there was also a problem with the weight given to the evidence but stressed that his client will show up if summoned for interrogation.
The Beit Shemesh Municipality said the suspect was part of a small group of extremists who do not represent the wider majority of haredim in the city, let alone Beit Shemesh' 50,000 residents.

Absolutely true.
My experience has been that the majority would NEVER spit on them - preferring instead to throw feces and dirty diapers.

I thought he was arrested for spitting
If the excuse is to be accepted then any action can be condoned
I stoned the person because he was driving a car. should not be arrested because it
stemmed from religious reasons and his lifestyle.

Judge Hagit Mac-Kalmanovich?
Is she related to the other Mac Kalmanovitchs off Dublin?
Maybe the O'Kalmanovitch clan?

Haredi Man Who Spat On Woman Released On Bail
Not surprising. It would be highly unusual to deny bail and keep someone in jail for spitting. Is he a flight risk? Is there a fear that he will flee to New York rather than face justice for spitting.

everyone knows thats this is a tiny minority, and that most chareidim feel as betrayed by their behavior as the women who are segragated, or shabbat drivers who are pelted with rocks, or archeologists who have their digs interrupted etc feel.
Most frum jews love their spouses and their kids, learn some torah, do some maasim tovim and get on with life. No more. No less. They are not better than anyone else.
You guys are just so sensitive and defensive that anytime someone does something wrong you make it seem like all frum people agree and are somehow complicit in this behavior.
I mean, how anti liberal, judgmental and plain stupid is that. Is the secular world somehow complicit in all the crimes that render your prisons stuffed to the brim? Should you be tarred with the same brush because you live near a convicted thief and you both wear jeans?
Look, I know this wont make a difference, but just sniff your bias and let it go. You'll be much much happier if you live you life cos you think you are right, than if you do it because someone else is wrong!

What about a claim that haredim constantly make that Torah makes a moral and superior human being?

Hey ah pee, I don't know how to explain this to you, but we GET that. You are the one being sensitive, no one here accused all haredi of this.

You know, ah pee, Haredim keep claiming that these are only a few "extremists". They also abhor outside interference and have that issue about being a "moser". Fine - then let them handle it internally. If these "extremists" were suddenly to disappear, I highly doubt there would be much of an investigation on the part of the secular authorities.

who knows, the hareidim distort the Torah for various reasons, financial is one of them, and power of the rebbes over their sheep. Dont' let them make you beleive they are authentic jews, they are not, don't every daven with them or eat or support hassidim or hareidim.
