Brooklyn DA Says He Has A "Rapprochement" With Agudath Israel Of America
Charles Hynes also says that not every sex offender goes to jail because, for people who come to his office through Kol Tzedek, his special programs for child sex abusers in the haredi community, or priests who come to his office through a similar arrangement with the Church, "we have programs for people who have this sickness." Hynes also said there is "no systemic outbreak of sexual violence in the frum community – that's a myth – any more than there is a systemic outbreak of sexual violence in the priesthood."
Note these special programs Hynes mentions, including Kol Tzedek, and the deals they dole out to sex offenders from their respective affinity groups, deals that allow sexual predators to avoid prison (and the sex offender registry and media coverage) are specifically for Catholic clergy and haredim – but not not for atheists or followers of Santeria or Seventh Day Adventists or agnostics or hipsters or artists or Blacks or Asians or Hispanics or any of the other groups that populate Brooklyn. And that should means Hynes' deals with these two religious communities discriminate against all non-haredi and non-Catholic-clergy sex offenders in Brooklyn. And that should make these deals and the special programs they created illegal.

Brooklyn DA Charles Hynes on Agudah Sex Offenders Priests (Gifter Video)
Makes one wonder what other groups or special interests get special handling at the DA's office.
Bankers?
Politicians?
Athletes?
Celebreties?
Prostitutes? (Oops, I already listed politicians)
I guess it's not that justice is for sale, it's just that you have to be someone special to be able to shop there.

So Charles Hynes is getting tough with the pedophiles as long as they aren't Catholic priests or Orthodox Jews.
Basically, the Brooklyn DA is in bed with the Catholic Church and Agudath Israel to keep pedophiles out of jail and off the public sex offender registry.
And of course Agudath Israel believes that pedophiles are the same as homosexuals and can be cured using junk science.
Wow. The DA must go.

FBI or the justice department needs to investigate why should these groups be treated differently and why shout a non member of these groups go to jail and these guys don't
Posted by: seymour | December 15, 2011 at 02:29 PM
I never noticed this before but Charles is quite a good looking man. Don't worry about me, I have already contacted Kol Tzedek just to be sure I don't get caught with my pants down. Hell, I don't want any (more) trouble. I'm already wanted for questioning in several states.

This also seems to contradict Rabbi Avi Shafran claim that "Those decisors, permit indeed demand that in cases where an individual has "raglayim la'davar" (roughly, reason to believe) that abuse has taken place he should promptly contact the secular authorities - not the local District Attorney."

Careful, Yidden! He may be using us to protect his church, as if to say you see? it isn't just the church with its homosexual priests that has the problem it is the same with the Jews so why pick on the church?

I don't think it's pure "junk" science. There is some progress. In my case, I was 100% homosexual (no pedophilia). I was not happy (may have been other reasons than just that, honestly, I'm just not sure). After several months of vigorous application in a very well known program, I am proud to say that I am now bisexual. I know it's not perfect (yet) but I am having fun, feel better about myself and surely you'd admit it's headed in the right direction. The only drawback I found which I hope to correct soon (as part of the program benefits) is that my children want nothing to do with me at this time.
P.S. If anyone can help me get in touch with Chaskel Bennett (phone or email), it would be greatly appreciated. I found some old documents that may be of interest to him (in the sense they should be kept hidden). I don't want to lie, but I would be asking for money. I am willing to donate half to this upstanding and courageous blog administrator.

Nice. This thread goes from talking about abuses in government, to Catholic bashing, to extortion and bribery by posters.

WTF was that post???? I'm hoping it was completely satire, but you can never tell for sure on this here internet machine.

"That very well known program" has caused many to commit suicide. One can't pray or meditate away sexuality, or even be shamed out of it. Get some authentic help and you'll see how much happier and healthier you are.

I just want to get something out of my system I have been holding inside for a while.
Fuck the Agudah and fuck them again, and again, and again.
Every one of them.
George Weinberger, Chaskil Benit, the Hitler-look alike Sol Werdeger (the ugly mustach goes well with him harboring Mondrowitz for years along with his cronies at Ger), Shafran, and that dick who will soon be exposed in a major way Mr. Kleinman.
All of them are guilty of harboring predators.

New Hynes article:
http://forward.com/articles/147922/
http://forward.com/articles/147922/?p=2
...
The Forward sent Hynes a list of questions on December 12, asking for details of the arrests and convictions and for clarification of his stance toward the Orthodox community’s reluctance to report abuse cases. Hynes answered only about half of the questions.
He supplied a list of 14 cases that ended in convictions, listing charges and sentences — ranging from one month to 20 years in jail — but not the names of those jailed.
Because 10 of the 14 pleaded guilty, it’s possible many cases were adjudicated away from the media spotlight.
In addition, 24 people were released on probation after pleading to reduced charges, or after their cases were dismissed. Again, it is likely these cases were not reported in the media.
Last month, the Forward combed through news reports and interviewed people who specialize in sex abuse cases, trying to piece together how many arrests there had been in recent years.
During the past two years, the Forward was able to find only nine reported arrests and three convictions of Orthodox men.
Of the 85 cases the D.A. has pursued, 47 remain open.
Again, the D.A. has withheld the names of the accused.
Hynes said that seven of the 85 accused had to register as sex offenders and that a further six will have to register upon release from jail. Again, he did not release the names of those offenders.
A search of the New York State sex offender registry revealed the names of at least six Orthodox men living in or near Orthodox communities in Brooklyn. But at least four of those six men were convicted of abuse before Kol Tzedek was launched.
Hynes declined to tell the Forward how many of the sex abuse cases closed so far involved plea deals to less serious charges.
He also declined to comment on the policy of Agudath Israel, the ultra-Orthodox umbrella organization that insists that anyone who suspects but has not actually witnessed sexual abuse of a child must consult a rabbi before reporting to the secular authorities.

Whichever group contributes the most to Hynes' campaigns gets this preferential treatment. He's as corrupt as they come.

Take any DA or other high office holder, pay attention to whatever block special interest group they pander to, and you can be 99% sure you know what district they are going to run for higher office in.

Rabbi Avi Shafran claims in his latest obscene article (Rabbi Maryles states that Shafran characterizes in this article this blog and the bloggers criticizing Agudah as "Nazi propagandists"):
"one speaker [at the Agudah closed meeting], who asserted that Mr. Hynes had reportadly had been told of the halachic decisiors' rulings and found them entirely consonant wih the secular law in New York, which requires reporting when there is reasonable cause to believe a child has been abused."

Being labeled a Nazi by Avi Shafran is a badge of honor. Shafran and Frankfurter have become the laughingstock of Orthodox journalism. Can anyone possibly take them seriously?

it is a great honor to be called NAZI by shafrin

Someone needs to put Hynes on the spot and ask him why he is associating with an organization whose spokesman Shafran used this hate filled language in his books against the reform and conservative movements. Quotes from Shafran’s book about the reform and conservative movements that was online just a few years ago. It has since been removed:
“These people are not so much meant to be hated as enemies and wished dead for the sake of ‘revenge’ or to see them dead. The way we hate such people is not like the ‘cat hates the mouse,’ but rather like the ’storekeeper hates the vermin’ which infest his store, not hating the vermin themselves but wanting them gone in order to arrest the damage they are causing. We resent their existence. So, in lieu of the fact that we are not allowed to physically harm these people today, we should still treat them with utter contempt and disrespect, avoiding contact with them as one would with any destructive fiend.”
Shafran writes about Conservative and Reform leaders that there is “a law which orders loyal Jews to kill these types of people if at all possible,” a law which was declared inapplicable today by the Chazon Ish but which “remains valuable for the light it sheds on the way Real Judaism” regards such people.
He states that Conservative and Reform leaders “qualify for the infamous titles of min and apikoros” and “are the followers of Korach;” Shafran states that “these man-made ‘religions’ [Conservative and Reform] are the most destructive forces in the history of the Jewish people and all those who seek to spread their noxious heresies are mesisim, instigators whose aim is to lead astray the masses;”
And why is Hynes associating with an organization that believes that pedophiles are the same as homosexuals and can be cured using junk science?
Hynes must go.
Posted by: jewishwhistleblower | December 15, 2011 at 09:59 PM
Hynes couldn't care less about reform or conservative. However, if you tell him what Shafran said about Capt. Sullenberger and Bernie Madoff, that might get his attention.

And yet what does the spokesperson for an organization that has blocked laws that would have directly protected our children, an organization that has worked with the Catholic Church to this end, an orgaganization that has left our children vulnerable and protected the sexual predators in our community, have to say about the sexual predator they protected for decades?
Shafran: “Why would we have comment about the arrest of an individual?”
And yet he uses Nazi imagery to libel advocates for children as "Nazi propagandists".
Typical Shafran.
Whenever the Baltimore Jewish Times exposes local rabbis who prey on children or women, Shafran takes the time to write to the editors. He is the unnamed employee at Agudath Israel.
Excerpts:
Andrew A. Buerger, Publisher Baltimore Jewish Times, March 21, 2008
“This case is now closed. But there’s more to come. Other victims will come forward in other cases; we now know that authorities are investigating other local rabbis. So this is just the sad start and not the end.”
…
“We also received a stream of letters from an employee at Agudath Israel, a right-of-center Orthodox group, that nitpicks the semantics of our stories, but ignores the responsibility of religious organizations to make sure that children’s lives are not ruined. Some people, it seems, are quicker to protect perpetrators than victims.”
…
“We are working on several stories regarding alleged perpetrators, but we will not print them without a thorough investigation.”
…
“We won’t be intimidated by allegedly pious leaders. And we won’t stop printing the truth.”
Shafran never stops.
Excerpts: Silencing Abused Women
Family Violence? Not in My Community!
Alexiou, Alice Sparberg. Lilith. New York: Spring 2004. Vol. 29, Iss. 1; pg. 8
Miklat, the only battered women's shelter in Israel specifically for Orthodox and Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) Jewish women and children, has announced plans to open a second shelter, somewhere in the center of the country. Experts say that the country's current crisis mode has increased violence against women. Miklat founder and president Estanne Fawer told LILITH that in the last year and a half, the shelter has had to turn away 70 women and their children because of lack of space. Fawer created Miklat in 1996.
...
Breaking the silence on abuse in the Orthodox world, both in North America and in Israel, apparently upsets Agudath Israel, an organization representing the ultra-right wing of Orthodoxy. In January, Agudah spokesman Rabbi Avi Shafran sent LILITH a press release complaining that the attention now being focused on spousal abuse among Jews is tantamount to Orthodox-bashing.
"All the Orthodox rabbis I am privileged to know are exquisitely sensitive toward women, as they are towards men," he writes. Those who take seriously those rabbis' advice, Rabbi Shafran says, "would be rendered virtually incapable of abusing his or her spouse."
Tell this to the women in the Miklat shelters.
...
And Hynes wants to associate with this dreck?
Hynes must go.
